New owner of a scruffy 87-ish FZ750, only just got it home so need to start pulling it apart to see what's what. But really I need to finish my other XJ550 basket case project first..
Th e FZ deffo needs ome new plastic bits but on the plus side it runs and it's complete but needs cosmetic work - maybe more.
Where do you guys get parts like braided hoses. I'm also after some of the early 'short' fairing lowers.. thoughts ?
Cheers
Jamie

Hello Jamie. A lot of owners have modified their FZs with different forks, wheels etc which makes buying things like braided brake hose much easier. Short fairing lowers from cascu or midnormold on ebay.

Thanks guys - spoke with Mid Norfolk guy this afternoon so hopefully sorted for a few bits - although I also replied to a for sale post on here too as it sound like they are painted..
Cheers

Hi All
A quick update. Couldn't resist taking a closer to look at the latest acquisition and have to say it's been rather 'unloved'.. I started to make a list on 'concerns here.
Offside fork seal weeping, nearside fork very slightly pitted. Cockpit fairing cracked, scratched, broken and unsightly - for the bin I think. Broken exhaust stud on number 4, broken collar on number 1 Some evidence of oil weeping on the front of barrels - could be crap leaking past from broken exhaust (see above) Top yolk pinch bolts one almost falling out,the other fallen-out months ago. Downpipes poorly patched (welded) in 2 places Hole in end can (inside facing rear wheel) Chewed up screw in brake m/c reservoir. Oil level a bit low - 1/3 up window. 0.5 litre approx added takes it to top of window. Coolant low - added just water 2/3 pint)for the moment to the radiator. Reservoir still very low. Brakelines look old and have rusty banjos/fittings - work OK for the moment though Wheels flaking (white/cream) paint or coating and look crap - good tyres though. Been on it's side in the grass recently - some bits of vegetation still in the coil bracket etc.. May also explain dodgy replacement indicator. Various chips and gouges on the tank and side panel. No grab rail. M6 screws and copper washers on the intake stubs in place of the balacoing nipples...
So in the market for brake-lines plus blu/white/yellow cockpit fairing and maybe wheels (if cheaper than refurbing the current ones..) Other bits are service items really I think.
Cheers
J

Hi J, On eBay there is pretty much everything available second hand. Some XJ parts around that era are also interchangeable. If money permits it would be cheaper to buy another complete fz and makeone from two. Plastic fairings can be plastic welding and decals are available for when you are ready to repaint. Lots of info on net just Google. There is an American business that replicates decals. Traffic on this forum is pretty slow but they do have a Facebook page which seems busier somaybe join and post on there. I flick between the two. Grant

Jamie, don't be too quick to chuck the top fairing if it's repairable. Good ones are a bit scarce. Snapped exhaust studs can be a pain to remove/replace. I struggled so much with one I eventually took the engine out! Again good exhausts are hard to come by which might explain the repairs to yours. Think I may have shot myself in the foot with the facebook page as this forum does seem much quieter now. I also flick between the 2! lol

I also flick between the 2! lol Maybe I should have said chuck it to one side - it could be repaired, buit it sure ain't pretty and it's the wrong colour scheme for the rest of the hotch-potch (I need blue/yellow/white). I didn't look really close but I thing the stud is at least snapped with 1/2" still outside I think (hope). I'l be taking teh exhaust off at some point to take it to a proper welder my brother knows and see if he can work some magic.. Re facebook I'm afraid I won't go there out of principle. My wife spend hours looking at peoples nonsense and I don't wnat to get sucked in. Like the minecraft guy said I think it's all a bit 'creepy' - and he's a fellow egg-head. Forums cost me plenty of time as it is! Cheers J

Be warned......FZjamie is a total nutter who has persuaded his brother (me) to buy one of these daft machines. I collected my non-runner for £200 today. Now....how do I get the fuel cap lock moving.....?

Lol hello Timmy. I replied to the filler cap problem somewhere on here. Have a look on our facebook page if you're on there. There's a bit more going on in there but please don't abandon this forum totally. £200 for an FZ that needs work is a good price these days I think. You will have to post some pictures when you're ready.

Well, having a stab at it on occasion....... I have a spark and have stripped and cleaned out tank and carbs. Big day tomorrow when we will try to fire her up! I have foolishly been purchasing spares even before I know fully that the machine is worth restoring instead of breaking.
