The "BEFORE" shot.
1988 FZ750 with FZR1000 motor and YZF600 Thundercat front end and wheels. Half fairing manufactured in one piece - still in gelcoat.
The "AFTER" shot. Eddie Lawson scheme done with vinyl wrapping.
Mod list:
1988 FZR1000, Barnett Clutch springs, HEL braided clutch line, 37mm FZR carbs with FZ750 lower airbox and FZR1000 upper airbox / inlet, BMC air filter. YZF600 Thundecat 41mm forks, triple clamps, bars, brakes, wheels. Hagon rear shock, '89 FZR 1000 exup tail light, FZ1 mirrors, tinted screen, Suzuki GSR600 front mudguard.
Dyno'd at 122rwhp
Latest problem is its starting to jump out of 2nd gear (as does most FZR1000's 5 speeds with a few miles under their belts) Soon to be freshened up with rings, camchain, geabox bearing and an FZ750 6 speed box.
That's the progress so far. May even fit a billet clutch basket as the OEM ones have a problem with chattering and if given too much abuse, the "fingers" fracture and hand grenade.

Looks nice hope you have fun riding, my fz750/1000 pulls up in a power wheelie if I sit in a normal position. No clutch , yahoo!

Yep, mine too.
With the 6 speed box, first gear is even shorter, so it will be even easier.

Lovely bike. Very interested to read power figures for the 1000cc conversion. My FZ is in need of an engine transplant & although I seem to have a spare 750 engine I'm holding out for a 1000cc one. I had a 1993 Honda Fireblade with 978cc which gave 135bhp at the wheel. That was good for power wheelies in 1st & 2nd, no clutch involvement! Wish I still had it actually.

Has had the 1000 motor in it for many years now. Has recently started to jump out of 2nd gear, so I'm going back to a 6 speed box from a 750, and a freshen up while its apart. Prior to that it was a 911 using 750 heads and 34mm carbs - this made huge torque.
With the '88 FZR1000 motor (989cc) it has been dyno'd at 122rwhp From my research this seems to be similar to other Genesis 1000's dyno's with a slip on pipe. Exup's seem to dyno at around the low 130's
135rwhp in your Fireblade would have scared a few FZR's and GSXR's in its time.

Today's efforts: Remove carbon from pistons & cylinder head.
Also cleaned up some casting dags from the inlet manifolds and did some port matching to the cylinder head. Still quite rough at the moment and will need a bit more finishing.
Also dropped the cylinder block and gear clusters to a local engineer as well. Block will be decked 0.015" and cylinders re-honed. If I've got my maths right, this will bump static compression from 11.2 to 12.0:1 Bearings are being pressed out and replaced on the gearbox.

Further progress. Cases split, new camchain installed, gearbox out and inspected for damage.
As expected, found worn dogs on second gear and selector fork has been bent and gouged by the gears spreading apart under load.

Todays efforts: Remove FZR 5 speed shift drum and replace with FZ 6 speed drum and selector forks. Remove all the valves from the head, clean valves and inspect cylinder head. Ports are left very rough cast from the factory with very little machining apart from exhaust port manifold recess and inlet manifold face.
Example of the "step" found between exhaust valve seat and the as cast exhaust port.
Similar issues with all of the inlet valve seats as well, but after a bit of blending, they look like this:

Wow nice work! & very time consuming I know. I did a 8 valve car head years ago. Same lip behind valve seats but bigger. I spent 2 weeks of evenings & 2 weekends smoothing out port walls, matching manifolds etc. Engine felt good until the oil pump failed after a few hundred miles.

Interesting, that transmission looks just like the one in my 81 350LC. Guess Yamaha didn't change much over the years. I wonder if any of those parts are interchangeable with the RD/RZ parts?
