My clutch cover is chipped an scratched so i had a spare and rubbed it down and polished the shiny insert - looks much better. BUT is it fair to say the shiny bit is purely cosmetic and sealed well from the rest? My concern is that all the wet and dry grit and polish I used on the shiny bit could find their way inside the motor. I really don't think it's possible but I'm paranoid about abrasives!
Cheers

The silver bit actually unbolts from inside. It has a big rubber gasket running around the edge which you can see between the silver centre & the outer casing. I have removed the centre section on both my FZ & my FZR in order to polish & lacquer then refit them. I'd say you're very safe with polishing it in place mate.

H, Thanks Graham. I did get as far as trying to unbolt the insert but the three screws were mighty stuck so I abandoned it. FZR eh? How's that compare to the FZ and what about a YZF? I quite fancy one of those - mainly for the looks as the FZ is quick enough for me,.

My fzr is the early “pre exup” model. Bought it fairly cheap in pieces. Took a chance on it and now it’s back together it’s a peach! To be honest it’s less comfortable than my FZ. Riding position puts a lot of weight on your wrists. My FZ has a Genesis 1000 engine so performance is very similar. I would say my FZ feels more agile to be honest but there’s not much in it. They both perform very well when rode energetically. For some reason the fzr gets a bit more attention at my local bikers cafe. Probably down to more people having owned one I love them both and hope the day never comes where I feel the need to sell either.. or both! My main bike is a FZS1000 Fazer. Now that is a bike for all occasions. If you ever get the chance to ride one then take it!

Hi Graham
Ah I thought you meant an FZR750 which would have been an import right? I had an early FZS600 back in the day (2001-ish) I liked it a lot but it was a bit buzzy and less 'planted' than the FZ750 I think. it was the most I've ever spent on a bike (about 3k for a 1 year old) but we're talking pre-marriage, kids and now separation!!
Anyway, back to the clutch cover the only way in for any grot to pass the insert is via the three bolts I think which on mine are seized pretty solid on this donor cover.. so all should be ok..

My mate bought a FZR750 about a month after I bought my 1000. Yes they were imported. Same engine as late FZ but with FZR1000 sump fitted so take offs for an oil cooler. Few other small differences like ally clip ons on the 750, steel on the 1000 but basically the same to look at. Your 3 bolts are held in place with Loctite/thread lock so bit stubborn to remove. I use an impact drive on mine.
