Thanks for your concern. We're still getting 5-15 aftershocks a day in Christchurch and have done for the past 9 months, mostly minor ones now but the odd bigger one that scares the Shite out of us. The most recent large quake was at the top of NZ under the sea and a 1000 odd km's away thank god.

Clip ons finally arrived, bit bulky but they'll work. Some muppet didn't read the ad properly they are 1 inch bars which explains why they were so cheap. So I got hold of some 1 inch solid bar and turned it down to the standard 22.3mm. Still way lighter than the standard steel ones. Bar was cheap, enough to make 4 bars + 4 foot pegs for NZ$50. Also started cutting down the sub frame to lighten and to suit the tail section. Cheers Red

I'm always so impressed by the standard of work by the members of this forum. Makes me think I have to knuckle under a bit more with mine. One MOTed now and the other one I'll take to the shop and let them sort it out. Well done RED, and thanks for keeping us updated

Bit More progress.... Cut the rest of the sub frame away and welded new section on, I'm 6ft4 so needed to raise the seat height a bit for leg room. Fits up nicely ( rubber mounted), will leave a stub of the sub frame support on the the RH side to mount rear master cylinder and to hold the muffler stay. Plenty of room underneath to hide the radiator overflow etc. Made the LH rearset today. Obviously it looks like a home made job but given its made from scrap Alloy I had in the shed I'm pretty happy with the result. It has 50mm of vertical adjustment and 20mm horizontal. Probably need to add a small guard to keep my boot out of the chain, we'll see. Cheers Red

Cheers John, I do my track racing at Ruapuna Raceway (our local track in Christchurch) and Levels ( about an hour and half away). But I love street racing and we are lucky over here there are 4 annual street races in the South Island that are very popular with riders and spectators (Greymouth, Nelson, Methven and Wyndham). I've raced Methven and Greymouth, keen to make it to the others this year a well. And in future years there are iconic street races at Paeroa and Wanganui that I want to get to. I find I'm a bit more competitive at street races, I only started road racing 3 years ago at 39 so I've still got a lot to learn.

The more I looked and the more bourbon I drunk the less happy I was with version one rearsets so decided to splash out( actual money !) on some 10mm alloy plate and make a better job. Used some after market GSXR pillion pegs with custom made mounts that have an engineered break off point. Gear side finished...... brake side nearly there, justs needs some finishing and polishing.... Cheers Red

Looks llike you have been absent for a little while now. How is the build going? It's past the year now since the first shake down there A, see I'm kiwi too so its news daily. Freaking me out a bit as I've just bought somethin like this .Except there is a different caliper brand up front. and its a runner. but many minds think alike apparently and the similarity is quite close. Hope its good news for you to get an update on your thread? JR.

Ah yeah, project has taken a back seat for a wee while unfortunately. Finally found a house to move to from our munted old one, then had to move, then more big quakes at Xmas, more damage to house and bikes. My old place had a 4 car garage that was my motorbike man cave with no cars but new place only has a single garage. So I built a new one which took time. Now I got a bit of room to move and work on bikes but got distracted with a F4 bucket racer project I went halfs with a mate. Its a suzuki GP100 commuter which I just finished building - porting, GP125 barrel with RM125 piston, modified the rotary valve and intake , bigger carb and built an expansion chamber. Have taken it from 12HP to 19Hp. Racing it for the first time next weekend at the Methven Street races ;D. Now the bucket is sorted I hope to get back to the FZ in the next month or so. I've been collecting more parts for it - K&N individual filters, dynojet kit, fork internals + a set of FZR1000 sumitomo calipers. Can beleive I'm going to make the 3rd set of caliper adapters for this bike!! but the nissins were deemed illegal for pre 89 class so no choice. Hope to post some progress soon. Cheers Red

Cheers Red Hi Red, Don't know if you have tried the gear change lever yet but three things strike me. 1. The lever is way too high and need to be angled down somewhat. 2. The change rod need to be behind the lever as one restricts the movement of the other. 3. You may need to increase the actuation point of the lever too your foot will move a fair bit to change gears. Apologies if this is a sucking eggs moment.
