Not trying to run before I can walk but I have been looking at getting a thunderace or FZR1000 engine for my FZ in the near future. I have noticed that the FZR1000 has 1 bolt hole on either side of the cylinder head & the thunderace has got 2. These are non existent on the FZ engines so I'm guessing that Yamaha decided the more powerful motors needed extra support further up. Can anyone with either of these engine fitted to their FZ tell me if they fabricated anything in order to make use of these mounts or do you just use the existing FZ mounts & forget head ones ?

I would use those mounts just to be safe if i was gonna do the conversion Graham. Have a look at the post Wheaty put in the links section titled "Jap FZ site" and you can see what that bike has had fabbed to do the job, looks a fairly simple solution.

I noticed that but couldn't be sure if it was just a way of mounting something else like the oil cooler perhaps. can't think if they have used an existing bracket on the front of the lower frame rails or welded something on ? I will have to check mine but I'm thinking I could make something for either side that I could weld to the back of the frame rail which would do away with that silver brace in the link. Cheers Rob I think I already knew the answer but it's nice to hear other owners opinions for confirmation.

Hi Graham I think later thunderace motors have top mounts is because the motor hangs in the frame (no front down tubes) on your fz you have front frame rails using the front lower engin mountings unused in the ace. This is a project i would like to take on next- money is the only barrier yamglenn

If poss, I would be looking at a couple of bolt in mounts, which could be removed easily in case the motor needs removed

Yes money (or lack of it) will determine weather I do this to mine eventually. Can't decide if I want to sell my fireblade to free up some cash for the conversion or just put up with the FZ as a 750 & keep the Honda. Or sell the lot & buy a Fazer 1000 ! ;D

If I was given the choice I would keep the blade and treat the FZ as a long term project in several phases. But it ain't me.............

That is more than likely what will happen Tom. Fireblade probably isn't worth a great deal lately since our little falling over episode at the Nurburgring. So much I want to do, so little time.. . Hang on, I've got all the time I need what am I talking about ? ;D

Course you have Graham. You're only half my age. You just need to prioritise better, and decide which kinda riding you'd rather do. Tough one innit??
