Hi, hopefully this will be a thread of some interest!! I have bought 2 FZ's one a 2mg and the other a 1FN. My intention is to build a Lawson Rep in the 1FN style but with 2MG running gear/chassis and then build a special with the 1FN frame with a Thunderace motor and yet to be decided suspension. I have already stripped both bikes entirely and both chassis/2MG wheels are away for powdercoating. I have nearly refinished all brackets and chassis components so when the frame comes back I can set about building. I will upload pictures as I get time but the general idea as to where I am is, The carbs have been ultrasonically cleaned and rebuilt. All chassis brackets/hangers etc refinished. Engine checked, valve clearences etc. Brakes all refinished, awaiting rebuild kits. Brake/clutch master/slave refinished, awaiting rebuild kits. Clocks all stripped, all metalwork refinished but unsure as to freshen up clock faces? any Ideas? All bearings to be replaced with locally sourced leading make bits (SKF/FAG etc)

A few more pictures. I will put some order on my thread when I get chance, I just thought I'd put some piccys up and check my uploads work. The last pictures are of my youngest Son, he's 10yrs old and loves helping out. he's a great help and will be a cracking mechanic if he keeps his interest up, he's cleaning the frame rails before we fit the motor on this ZXR750 we put together a few months ago, all in the conservatory of course!! Another bike we tarted up last year. a nice FZR1000.

Hi, sorry for the lack of updates. Life etc etc etc!!!! I will hopefully upload a fair few pictures in the next day or so but basically both chassis are built, one motor ready to re-fit and one in bits for the output shaft bearing replacement. Really enjoying the rebuild and should have a couple of very nice keeper bikes when I'm done . My 10yr old Son has been a very active member of the build and is currently wet sanding the tank with 400 grit paper!! Ive promised him he can clear coat the tank if he prepares it well enough. My other Son is coming up to his 16th birthday so he has his own project on the go ready for his road debut. It's an RS50 Aprilia, its getting a full strip and rebuild with a 70cc upgrade kit, race crank/carb etc. He's already a competant mechanic and I'm very proud of him. Pictures to completion to follow....................................................I promise!!!!

My Sons bike, he rebuilt the engine yesterday, engine being refitted today> He got all his powdercoated bits back aswell......he's buzzing!!!! My 1FN chassis, shot of it earlier, fully rebuilt noe, piccys shortly. Clutch master rebuilt, dissapointed with the inspection window. Any ideas where I can get a replacement? A bit of my time sat on the bench. All the details make the difference I believe. Forks where disgusting, now good but still small pitting on chrome.......drives me mad.

Hahahaha!! I love getting my overhauls on a tinkering, my Grandad used to say 'make something happen boy' Ive always tried to listen to the old fella and do just that, love getting in the garage, striking up the stove and inch my project forwards. I have just bought a dog rough RGV VJ22 seen in the background, I'm far to tubby for it but I don't care, it's getting the treatment.

I know exactly what you mean. The beauty of tinkering with bikes for me is that you are doing something constructive, there's no pressure to have it done by a certain time/day, You're giving a new lease of life to something that had probably been neglected for years & when it's done you can stand back & say it was all your own work.

Thats it!! Someone has turned there backs on it and youve brought it back to life. I never tire of that feeling when your riding something youve put everything into, I love bikes but riding something you have done is brill.
