Hello Guys,
I've got a project bike that I am wiring up an '85 FZ750 tach to and don't know what the locations on the tach are for. If you reference the terminals on the back of the tach at 1K, 5K and 10K, where would the brown, orange and black wires connect? Thanks for your help! BTW, I had an 85 that I picked up for $500 off a racer in 1990 (that was feeding another habit), put full lowers from an '88 on it and painted in white & Marlboro orange GP livery, sweet bike, wish I still had it! Hi Ken I've recently become an FZ750 owner again, so I'm yet to work through my bike to check everything through and refresh my own memory ! I've got a great wiring diagram though, the tacho and all other gauges/warning lights all go to a big connector. You probably already know that Black is negative, Brown switchable live (from ignition switch) and Orange signal feed from the ignitor box - oddly it looks like the Orange connects to a Grey feed at the connector block - it's also a signal feed to the coils from the ignitor.
I don't know if that's any help - there's a link to the Facebook group on the board - that looks pretty lively and good for a quick response. Nick

I'm with you, don't do FB - I still think on-line message boards are new age !
There's a link at the top of this board where you can download an FZ genuine workshop manual.

Thanks for the tip, Nick. As is typical of Yamaha service manuals there are a lot of subjects that are on a need to know basis and apparently they are the only ones that need to know about a tachometer. Unfortunately, there is not a sentence about the meters. I understand the wiring codes, orange is signal from CDI, black is ground and brown is 12v. I need to know where they connect on the tach. There are Japanese characters on the back of the tach, I imagine it's time to learn Japanese. domo arigato

Damn - wish I could remember how I wired in an FZ400 tach into my 550 when I replaced the mechanical one. I think ground/negative was fairly obvious being part of the metal work. for the signal an power I think you're safe to experiment without fear of damage... or you could learn Japanese as you sugget
