Picked this up yesterday - cost (transport only!). I'm reliably informed that it has not run for the best part of 20 years.. The speedo that came with it shows 12,500 ish miles - could it be true!? Anyway this will be recommissioned (not restored and added to my collection of 'survivors' - best bit not tax or MOT needed!

Something to get your teeth into ! Is that a 200 or 250 ? Had the later GT200X5 and 250X7 back in the day, engine looks like the 200X5's . . . so 200 I'm guessing... the only thing with old 2 - strokes is that the crank seals perish/don't seal with lack of use - not keen on the bars though - set of ace bars would look period.. maybe not ! (alright whilst in your teens).

Hi Nick
Its a GT250A from 1976 and sadly somewhat worse than the pictures show.. (rotten mudguards and seat, rusty wheels &exhausts, rusted tank, taped-up wiring etc,,) However it believe it or not did come with a set of ace bars!! I'm going to try and start it but I'm prepared fro a crank rebuild..

I always remembered the 1970's GT250 with that ramair cooling malarkey on them, had me fooled (not easy !). Nice price Jamie, can't go wrong there....

Ah yes this is the first one post 'RAM-AIR' which were models K,L,M and the ones everyone remembers, non-ramair years were A,B,C (?) then on to the X7 which was quite different again (much lighter).. This is my kind of thing taking something neglected and making it 'good enough' I don't have the time or money or even desire for a full resto but if I can make it run and ride reliably I'm happy.
Cheers

It runs - just about. but further woes include stripped threads on the LHS exhaust/barrel cracked frame and snapped studs in the frame for foot rests etc..

All the fun of returning a golden oldie back to a runner Jamie..... at least whipping a two stroke engine out to fix the exhaust port thread and frame issues isn't too bad. I've been gradually taking bits off my FZ, treating them, spraying them etc, slow work, but the closer I look the more there is to do... got to check the valve clearances next, those damn shims seem to cost a fortune, hoping I can swap them about and not need many
