102's in carbs when I stripped em...went up to biggest we had but only rev'd to 10100 rpm juddering like a good un. No sender as yet.....I got one from Graham but not working I think, how do I test sender? ? Hope yours comes soon so I can try that one. Have bought a shed load of parts off here picking them up today, there may be one with them! Fingers crossed. Have ordered Dynojet jet kit be here tomorrow morning, looking iffy for testing Saturday eh

hi Kenny, I was thinking....if you are having problems with the 1FN engine I have an early 1FN Engine (engine number 001531) which you are welcome to ''borrow''for the Manx project on an extended loan basis. I also have a set of carbs which came off an American Eddie Lawson bike which have bell mouth air intake bits on so although I haven't checked the jet sizes they have no doubt been jetted up to the max. Again, you are welcome to have them on a loan basis. Let me know. Somehow we have got to get the power up to around 100bhp... John

Hey Kenny. Sorry to hear about the seized engine. Gutted for you. On the plus side you've got a 1FN engine to rob for spares I'm 90% sure the tank had the sender with it.

first check plenty metal slivers on sump plug magnet looks like shell material and the paint has melted burned off both end caps so I am guessing crank problem. FZ parts many thanks for bits, checked the bottom half of engine from you crank well rusty Will take engine back to builder over the week end....GUTTED ABSOLUTELY GUTTED

I had sprayed some oil into the crank cases and had the whole thing covered with plastic. I'm guessing it might have been due to condensation over winter. How bad is it? Is it usable? What are the bearing surfaces like?

Oh and what did the dyno guy say? Reason for it seizing up?

Sorry to hear that. I've always hated having mine dynoed - I have to go out of earshot till it's over.

Kenny, I am also very gutted. As I said, I have a 1FN engine which is still in a bike just now so I will have to remove it ready for your collection. I bought it as a complete bike but the previous owner was a messer (worse than me..) and had fiddled with the wiring so I have decided to break it for spares. I haven't heard the engine run but I am confident it will be OK. It looks oil tight and I always think that is a good sign. What a mess with your other one seizing. Just to cheer you up here is a humerous video of me in one of my messing modes with an old Lawson Replica www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMoVueaSTWE

The preliminary report is oil pressure problems...all big ends picked up and cams picked up, engine builder splitting cases tonight.
Anyone else experienced oil pressure problems and if so how did they cure it........

Just a thought - are you running total loss ignition? If you remove the alternator there are two oil feeds that need to be blocked. You need to wind a bolt (M10 from memory) into the end of the shaft that the alternator runs on and there is a little oil spray tube bolted to the back of the housing which needs to be nipped up (interestingly, I have four FZ engines and they've all had this last done, i.e. they've all been raced at some point). I hope you get it sorted out, Gavin

Yes total loss...all gubbins removed so no shaft etc etc however from what I saw the little oil pipe is still there.
I have sent you a PM

I'm no expert on this but I was warned that these oil feeds had to be blanked if you went to total loss. I just had a look at the oil circuit diagram in the factory manual and the spray is for the chain and probably not so important, but the feed down the centre of the alternator drive shaft seems to come off a main gallery and would probably cause a catastrophic loss of pressure if it was open and discharging straight back into the sump I've sent you my number in a pm. Gavin

Report received from engine builder.........catastrophic oil failure (erm read that in a post from Gavin (not Graham) that lovely lightened crank is ruined. All big ends are that bad con rods are knackered too. Seems cases may be ok but no word on cams as yet.

what a shame. However I was talking to the FZClub technical guy, Mike Wignall and he said it is far better that it happened on the Dyno than if you were coming down Bray Bill! Still nearly 2 months to get it sorted, Kenny. John
