I’m a little premature in asking this question but, when I finally get around to putting my fzr1000 motor in my 1FN what airbox is preferred choice? would the 1FN air box flow enough air? Can it be modified if required or replaced ie, 1000 air box or pod filters?

Interesting question. I suspect you would be planning a carb upgrade to go with the motor so that may well require different air-box rubbers anyway which will be best part of 100 quid and they may need to have the 750 airbox mod'd. When the time comes buy an FZR1000 airbox and see how well it fits, I'm guessing it would be a fortune off ebay. Airflow wouldn't be my biggest concern but plumbing would.

I have a Genesis 1000 engine fitted to my 2MG FZ750 using 750 airbox with a K&N filter. Can't comment on intake rubbers as I modified mine years ago using car radiator hose but The mod worked on my 750 carbs and it works on my 1000 carbs.

Thanks, useful to know that I could still use my 750 air box. i don’t have a 1000 air box so the 1000 motor will go in with its carbs and a nice stainless exhaust that came with it. Christmas project is to get her running as standard and see if I can repair plastics, I have collected a thunder cat front end and rear wheel to fit but that won’t be for a while!
HAPPY CHRISTMAS

Sounds fun, although there's often more to these transplants than meets the eye.. Some pics when you're ready please. NB ABS Plastics can sometimes be glued with plumber's solvent weld but go easy and practice on some scrap..

I have thundercat/TRX850 rear wheel fitted to mine but I also have FZR 1000 Genesis rear arm. Just need to make spacers to line chain & disc up. Not saying they are identical but the FZ & FZR air boxes are so similar I don't think you will have any problems regards performance or fitting whichever one you use. The FZR may be taller from memory & foul the tank slightly but I also have extended tank mounts on the front of mine so again, it wouldn't make any difference. Go steady when tightening your exhaust to the head. Those studs are old and frail now unless they've been replaced. I'm guessing your exhaust is a Micron? Flat spot at 3.5-4k rpm with the 750 and 1000cc engines. You think you can live with until you ride the bike a few times!

Most of the plastics cleaned up well, short fairing sides from Norfolk mouldings, soon be good to go, after the thunder cat running gear goes in.

Forgot to say the rear caliper bracket will need slimming down slightly to line the caliper/pads up with the disc if you use FZR Genesis arm.
