Well I've bought my third generator now and await its arrival this week sometime. Please let this be the one so that I can get my FZ on the road and get some riding done. I've been really torturing myself by reading plenty of bike magazines.

I hope it does work mate. I can't find this spare of mine anywhere ! & trust me I've looked. If it turns up any time soon you can have it Tom.

Cheers Graham. I didn't pressure you about it as I know you've plenty of other stuff going on. This one is another FZR1000 genny but I've sourced another FZ one, if it comes off. The bloke is selling most of an FZ750 for £50 but is in Kent so no good to me up this far flung corner of the Empire. I'll let you know how I get on when I pop it into place and get the meter on it.

Well my FZR1000 genny arrived today. I fitted it and this one is only making 3-4v at 5000rpm too. Anyone got any ideas what is wrong? How is the generator driven on the FZ? Surely they don't run 3 times the speed on the FZR???

Jeezus Tom you're not having much luck eh ? As you know I am in the midst of some ermmm.. . stuff which isn't very pleasant but has got to be done. I have yet to sort out my storage space properly which will involve a right good tidy up in the garage I rent. I'm sure my spare will turn up when I do so hopefully in the next week I will pm you to say I've found it. I thought the pressure might have been off when you said you had bought another but it seems it's back on !

Yeah me too mate but apparently not. This genny defo looks ok so I'm wondering if it's the drive on the bike but how are they driven? It seems to be okay and the genny obviously looks the same, has the same drive on it and fits perfectly so I can't understand what's wrong. Stupid stupid bike. I'm starting to regret buying it now and that's not good

I have no idea regards the drive to be honest as I've never had to get that involved with them. Without looking I would imagine a cog on a shaft or a gear which drives the generator shaft, either of which would either work or it wouldn't ? Have you got a Clymer manual for you FZ Tom ? I have a spare you could borrow if it will help. Will do my best to find my spare genny today Tom. Sounds like you need to know soon. You sure you're measuring their output properly ? Not meaning to sound patronising.

No, I'm not sure and I've been taking some advice from my mate who was/ is a motor mechanic and has given me some very good ideas. I'm going outside now, I may be some time.......................................................................

I'm just having trouble believing that every generator you have bought (3 now ?) has the exact same problem right down to showing the same voltage ? Here's a good test. Have you tried actually bolting one on & going for a ride with your lights on & stuff to see if your battery goers flat ? ;D

They weren't all the same as mine was actually dragging the battery down so I assume that it is going to earth somewhere. I've taken my mate's advice and found the problem with mine. The wire that feeds the genny had a bad connection so it didn't have a field. Traced the wires and made new connections and hey presto.

Nice one Tom. I love the way you are not letting this bike beat you. It's the only way to get them done. Keep at it.
