Doing tune-up and carbs are overflowing, no float problems, trying to diagnose?

So, I've had my FZ since 1986, working on a tune up currently and it's leaking gas along with stuttering once moving. Starts great, new oil / filter, Iridium plugs. I've cleaned the carbs, I have a full 'parts' 1987 bike so am thinking perhaps to just replace the float needles with the ones from that set of carbs. I have already switched out the diaphragms, moving my Dynojet kit needles. My IAE has 178,546kms on it so it's been running a while... Wondering if I'm missing something with the carbs? Any insights / thoughts appreciated!

Hi
My guess is that it's leaking via the overflow because the O-rings on the float needle seat/holder are letting by. I've found a metric size that works (serach my posts) but I believe the genuine ones are imperial size a nd are probably part of a rebuild kit anyway. Fix the leaks first and go from there.
Congrats on the Stella mileage BTW!

Hi Jamie,
thanks for that insight, I'll search for the sizing. Hadn't considered that yet, I have switched out the diaphragms with the secondary set of Carbs I have and a couple of them definitely have pin holes. I'll take a closer look at the float needle o-rings for sure. I did switch most of those also with the 'spare' carbs. It's hard to keep track of the different things I've been doing and I'm watching beautiful days go by while I tear down and reassemble my carbs (sob sob). Cheers on the mileage, it's been a great bike for me and has paid for itself many times over with great experiences.

Float needles would be my first port of call regards the leak. Only other suspect item is bowl gaskets/rubbers. I would buy a can of carb cleaner and give all the jets a good soaking while they're apart.
