So, it turns over, has spark but the carb rack is essentially useless, the slides are hopelessly stuck. Disassembled one and tried everything but nothing. Using a torch on it had no effect, so I'm looking for a rebuild able set. They don't have to be perfect, just rebuild able.

So, after going thru the valve clearance's, I've found that most are out of spec (too small) and 1 intake is sticking open, it looks like the head will be coming off. That's not a bad thing, this thing has suffered through its share of neglect and abuse, so 1 one thing at a time. Would love to post pic's but I'll be damned if I'll have to join FB or a photo hosting site to do that. You guys really ought to fix that.

Hi I think you can post pics via Google. I'm gonna try and update my 'otehr bike' thread and see! Good luck withteh head strip I spent an unhappy (large number) of hours setting the valves on mine as a PO had ground down some shims without telling!!

So as it turns out, someone had dropped a screw from the carb rack down the #1 intake. This in turn created a multitude of problems. 1 bent intake valve, a bent exhaust valve, a damaged piston and damaged head. I've replaced the head with a head from Ebay, disassembled and reconditioned it as best as possible. Replaced 3 valve guides an exhaust and an intake valve. Recut the seats only as much as required to obtain the correct width and height in respect to the valve face, using only a 45 and 30 degree cutter. I really didn't want to cut any more as it just sinks the valve that much more into the head and as I found out, I ended up replacing every single intake shim to get the correct tolerances. Now I'm at the point where I'd like to replace the cylinder sleeve in the #1 cylinder, so my question is, "can I just heat the cylinders and push out the #1 sleeve or is there a different procedure for replacing these sleeves."

So, I located a useable cylinder set, cleaned it up, put a light hone in it then put the topend back together, all while watching the Indy 500 and then the Nascar race. For me that's a good weekend. Pretty straightforward no problems, primed the carbs with a little fuel and she lit right up. So now I've got to install a new fuel filter, airfilter and then slowly start pulling the rest of the bike back together. Found a pair of used side panels on Ebay, then located the lower fairing panels and finished preparing the main fairing for paint. Shot 4 coats of silver base coat over the fairing panel and lowers, color sanded it back and now getting ready to shoot 2 more coats of silver then 2 coats of clear and they'll be ready for new graphics. Still looking for a complete stock exhaust system, if anyone has or knows of one, drop me a line...

Hi Mark. If you do happen to get on the facebook group there is sometimes someone selling stuff on there. I think there is someone selling headers for an early model but they are UK based from memory. Might be worth asking if they will ship to you. Good luck with it. All the hard work seems to be done now.

Thanks for the reply Graham, I'll have to see if I can get my son to look for me, I really don't have a big need or desire to do anything on Facebook. There's a stock set on Ebay (Germany, free shipping), a little rough but intact, if I buy those they should clean up but I'll have my son check Facebook 1st. Today I decided to go thru the carburetor rack today before tying down the airbox and filter for good. I found this rack on Ebay with a dynojet kit in it, the guy I bought them from said they'd been sitting on his shelf for years. It all checked out, I blew out some passageways and then I hooked up a temporary fuel tank to the fuel pump and a few clickty clacks and a couple of stabs on the starter button and she started right up. Turned the idle up blipped the throttle and she settled into a nice 950rpm idle.they should all start this easy. I've still a ways to go, cosmetics and so forth, but a real relief it starts and runs without any issues at this point.

So, gas tank and used/stock exhaust showed up on Thursday, was able to get everything on and take it for a couple of brief spins. Very happy so far, starts right up, idles, purrs like a kitten. The new/used exhaust really allows me to listen to it, nice and quiet. Now I need to find a centerstand and a gas cap. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Gas cap came and it fits quite well. One less thing, just mounted a new rear tire, the old one was a 150/something way bigger than the stock 130/80, way better now. The new front should arrive by friday and then I'll have new and correct size rubber front and rear.
