After 6 bikes and 37 years, just purchased my first FZ (1985) with 23K Km.
Model code is not 1FN (am in Northern Europe) but instead its the Japanese 1FM (got the dual headlight and dampers in the forks). Also, all the labels are in Japanese.
That's fine...
But the VIN on the frame is 1FM 000XXX (rather not list my VIN online, XXX is a number that is less than 300). So this is the XXXth FZ to come off the production line?
Now the really confusing part...
The VIN on the engine block is 1FM and nothing more. So this is not like the chassis and block numbers don't match. The numbers were never stamped in! Am a machinist, tool and die guy, done the math and the measurements.
Got any ideas about what the deal is with this bike?

HI I think I've seen that before on (Yamaha) Japanese imports - no engine number details are recorded, just the type.

btw the twin headlight is not legal in 'Northern Europe' and you have to sell it to me in the UK ;-)
