Hello . anyone know ? My problem is : I have an1986 fz750 with a smoking engine ,. I couldn't find any oversized pistons wherever I looked on the net . Found this good conditioned used cylinder block and pistons . The seller says it is a 1FN 1986 engine model . Mine is the 1AE model .Do these two models have the same or different cylinder/pistons ? Thanks for any answer

Hi. I think 1AE & 1FN are both early models so "should" be the same. Are you certain that piston ring/bore wear is the cause of the smoke? Valve stem seals could be letting oil from above into the combustion chambers giving similar symptoms. Be a shame to go to all that trouble if it's stem seals.

Well , I'm almost sure . I've been rebuilding this engine and bike after I got all the parts in boxes . The cylinder block was rusty and I took the chance of just honing it and used new piston rings .The Valve stem seals are new. I guess it wasn't enough and cylinders should be graved or replaced .

I would check piston to bore clearance's, I was in the same boat several months ago and finding a useable set of cylinders was very difficult, its also essential to bulding an oil tight topend. Then I would look closely at the cylinder head, simply installing new valve stem seals is not a guarantee of an oil tight head, Valve guides do wear and this is a source of oil consumption as well, checking valve seats and faces is also a must. A quick light lap will give you an idea of what you'll need to do. None of its cheap either, any worth doing is worth doing it right, otherwise it just turns into a money pit.

I forgot to mention, when looking for a suitable set of cylinders you may also want to peruse the fz700 cylinders. Most fz750 cylinders of this generation are normally used up and as a result, junk. The 700 cylinder is the same part as is the head and more plentiful and in better condition.
