Seriously, guys. Why is this forum so quiet? It pains me to think of the restoration of my bike this winter and all of the problems I will need answered But seriously seriously... was the fz750 not a popular bike? Was this bike not made in high numbers? Better, more popular bikes at the time? There seem to be just a handful of people from the US on here, but there seems to be a pretty big variety of parts available on ebay. Did I miss another forum at the intersection of Google and Search? I'm just confused as to why this forum isn't more active. In any case, my friends, I am going to the build forum to begin the documentation of my.. well I don't know what it will be yet. I hope you will visit. With all the questions I'll have this place will be busy for a while ;D

If this was a forum for many models or one make then I would expect it to be busy. Catering for only one specific model that ceased production in the very early 90's it is never going to be buzzing. I don't know but would guess any forum that dedicates itself to a single make & model of bike from over 20 years ago is going to be similar. I was under the impression we had a fairly mixed bunch on here from the US and UK, the majority being from the UK? I am as guilty as any for the lack of activity surrounding my FZs but having moved house earlier this year I have spent the last 5 months building a garage to house them. I hope to have all my bikes in one place by 2012 so will be able to spend more time working on them & no doubt more time posting on here. I am really looking forward to your questions & pictures of your build. Oh & for the record, in my slightly biased opinion the FZ was one of, if not the best bike available in its day. ;D

Nope, it's buggered.........
@ Graham
I always thought that the FZ was the crappy, boiler version of the FZR. Until I bought one recently and actually read some of the reviews that came out in the day. It pissed on the eqivelent aged GSXR....

Crusty there was no such thing as an FZR when the FZ 1st came out mate. The GSXR750 was possibly more desirable but I've never owned one so can't comment on which is best. The FZ is a much better bike for me regards modification as I've only got a mig welder. ;D

Yes, but when I was younger (teens) the FZR125 was the one to get. mind you I had the RG125 gamma which used to piss on the FZRs....
And mine is a 1990 and FZRs were out then....

I had a DTR125 with the same engine as the TZR. I turned the exhaust valve round into the fully open position & drilled 3 tiny spot welds off a huge washer with a very small hole in the exhaust front pipe. The difference was amazing! Did the same to a mate's TZR with similar results. Left a huge hole in the mid range power delivery but I didn't care. ;D Another mate had an RGV125. He bought some kind of blanking tube thing for his exhaust valve & it would then stay with an RD250LC! Happy days.

The exhaust valve....
I never bothered to do that with mine. It used to do 90 AND was usable in traffic so I couldn't see the point in trying to make it go any faster......
I used mine to get to work every day, a combination of lanes, A road and Bath tourist traffic, 15 miles each way.
Mind you, I did ride it home one day with the throttle stuck full on...

It sounds like someone had already de-restricted yours if it did 90 Crusty. Really rich kids bought the electrics to open & close the valve which made them more user friendly but where's the fun in that?

I did look into a proper valve and electrics, about £400 at the time. And no, mine wasn't a valved one. I checked. Mind you I don't weigh very much. Surprisingly it only did 80 using 4 star. That's how long ago it was.... But yes, I did 'open up the gas flow through the exhaust' with a poker if thats what you mean

As we are talking about the bad old days, Jenson Button doesn't come from Frome, he comes from a little hamlet called Vobster. I used to live in the next village over called Coleford (never met him though)
Th interesting thing about Vobster iS the fact that there's a humpback bridge there for a canal that was never finished.
I used to surprise the fuck out of people abount to pull out of the junction just after it by sailing past them in the air on the RG with my little brother on th back, giving them the finger.
Ad yes, it was such a good handler you could land it with one hand off the bars...

I have to agree with Graham regarding the lack of input due to the dedication of the site to one model. And although I wouldn't mind the inclusion of the FZX750, I have to admit that I prefer it the way it is and at least any info is targeted towards the type of bike that we all own, can you imagine trying to get some info about a specific model on a GSXR website. As for you lot reminiscing about your previous bikes, you're making me feel old cause my first bike was a Mk1 RD125LC that I bought in 1986 prior to buying one of my present FZs in 1988. I wish I still had my LC but am glad I still have my FZ.
