Hi all, here are a few pics and a bit of info about my new fz project i picked up today. Its had an fzr 1000 top end fitted and also, for some reason, a 5 speed fzr 1000 gearbox...Still running standard 750 carbs and exhaust though. It has a zxr 750 front end fitted and an rgv seat unit and subframe. The rear wheel is off a gsxr. Heres some pics... Plans are to completely strip it, check the motor over, fit a thundercat front end with blue spot calipers, fzr rear end, a different seat unit, yzf 750 carbs, a different pipe, respray etc...Should look nice and tidy when done. ;D Wish me luck....

Are you sure it's an FZ 750 engine with 1000 bits added? Sounds more like a 1000 engine with 750 bits added....

Another easy way to see the difference between 1000 and 750 barrels is to look at the rear of cylinders 2 and 3. The 1000 barrels have shallow vertical fins (either side of the cam chain tensioner and above the coolant pipes) whereas the 750 barrels don't. Looks like you've got a good project there Johnny.

Looks like good fun and great potential.
How are the side panels fixed?
I have seen a few horendous ones. I find thid is a truicky part of removeing the side panels and most FZ's dont look finished without good ones.
Maybe we could swap ideas??

cheers for the tip wheaty, i shall check that when i strip the bike down this week. Once the motor is out i can give it a good going over. The side panels are hardboard, covered in some kinda fabric... then held on with a couple of bolts. Destined for the bin I do agree though that it is important to get that area right otherwise it can ruin the look of an otherwise good bike. Work on the project today is going to consist of...sorting out my shed so i can get the bike in. Since i sold my gpz last year it has become the home of all sorts of junk. So once i have sorted it all out today i will be able to start stripping the bike.

well...there will be no rebuild of this one. Its gone... I really didn't like the look/style of it, hoped it would grow on me but, well....anyway, i have a lead on a much more standard one for a good price, so lets see what happens there
