Just playing around with fairings from other bikes thought I'd show you the picture I took of my fz with an nc30 seat unit shoved on. Looks to me like it could work. I also shoved on a seat unit from a tl1000 which didn't look as daft as I thought it would but I didn't take a picture of that. I must stop planning changes before I've got my bike running in the 1st place!

might look right once the panels have been trimmed to fit. Would like to see pics of the tl seat on it as well..

It's not my seat unit so couldn't mess with it it looks like with a bit of fettling it would sit down fairly nicely.
The picture was to tease our nc30 mad shop boy.
We do have an old bit rough nc30 race seat so i may play with that at some point in the future. I would need to put the subframe on a bit of a diet though.
I'll take one with the tl seat tomorrow.

That sounds to me like it would work well.
What are you thinking of changing it for?

going to go for a single stumpy seat with maybe an underseat exhaust. Or maybe something like an R1 unit. But that has been done a lot...

I has been done but that also means we know it works.
I'm tempted to go for a zxr400 race seat but I'm still trying to get my bike running before I can think about changing things. Plus I'm hardly flush at the moment so any major bits have to wait.
Also if that other nc30 seat fits then that will get wrapped along with the rest of the bike and will cost next to nothing.

Ok I put the TL seat back over sort of, I couldn't be bothered taking off all the fairings so just took off one side so some imagination is needed. There's also one with the zx6 I think seat from our stunt riders bike while it was kicking around. Neither really work but they were kicking about so why not. My preference is still the nc30 seat at the moment. I didn't take a picture but i can tell you a fireblade seat definitely looks wrong in so many ways.

I have it on good authority that a TRX850 seat unit looks the nuts on an FZ. ;D

Think the problem with the TL seat unit (on the TL at least) is that it sticks out further than the back tyre. If you could get it to fit your FZ without sticking out then it might look okay?

I just looks far too rounded to go with the rest of the bike.
Its almost exactly the right width but and even lines up with a could of bolt holes but it would need the front fairings changing aswell for it to work at all.
Seems like pointy or boxy is the way to go as far as I'm concerned.
