First off, a CDi uses capacitors.FZs (and the like) use TDis, which use transistors.
And you can usually buy then off Ebay for £25 anyway...

To explain just how much a TDi is compared a CDi, a CDi just uses a coil to pick up a magnet going past. It's so basic that , at high engine speeds, a second coil is needed to advance the spark.
A TDi is also knows what the engine speed is, advance and retard the iginition accordingly to produce the most engine power, and also restrict the engine.
Ask Allie the difference between the 2MG and the 1GH....

I know nothing about circuit boards and the like... So what Crusty just said is outta my league lol. Anyway, is the 2MG an improvement over the 1FN? Mine says 1AE on it and I think I need to rewire some things to use the newer CDI's. Still working on what needs to change though...

I believe it's fairly simple - basically, summing the signals from the two 1fn pickup coils so that they look like the output from the 2mg's single coil - although I've never done it myself. The 2mg unit has a higher rev limiter. I'm with Crusty on this though; these come up regularly on eBay, often with a stupidly high buy-it-now price but they can usually be bought for between £10 and £20 if you contact the seller. I have a couple of 2mg units that I'm keeping for spares and I've given away acouple of 1fn ones in the past.

Yeah I just cut one of the pickups completely out of the system when I tried it and the CDi started smoldering... so I'm thinking there is a wire somewhere that it's not suppose to be. If i could just get two clear wiring pin-outs to compare this would be a non-issue.
