Hi This has been done a few times but I've not seen pictures from a 2MG 750 so I thought I'd post mine. I'm swapping out an 88 750 engine for an 89 (pre exup) FZR 1000 motor. As you can just about see from the pictures, theres very little difference between them. I think the 1000 motor is slightly wider which is a good thing as I'm hoping the sprockets will line up correctly now I've changed the back end for an Exup with the Exup shock. Alliekat has given me a bit of advice and I'm currently waiting for 156mm centre dogbones to arrive so that I can get a bit more height on the back end without fouling the shock. The bike is in poor condition cosmetically so I'm just throwing stuff together to make sure things fit/work before stripping it all down and doing it properly. The FZR motor was started to make sure it ran: youtu.be/m1mUvLY-vFo and it doesn't sound too bad but I'll take it back out after I've fitted it and get it shimmed as I have no idea of its history. Does anyone know if I need to change the ignitor unit and the wiring? I think you had to on the 1FN - not sure this is the case with the 2MG. I've got all the fairing panels which are in very good condition physically but need a respray however I can't affort Dream Machine prices - anyone have any suggestions? Cheers Mike

From Allie's experience with her FZR750, a 2MG one will run it okay, but the thou ignitor will give better power.

Hi 1000 engine went into the 2MG frame with no problem. Had to make a couple of minor adjustments. Wiring and electrical sockets appear to be identical so no problems there. Use these brackets from the 750 engine: The engine bolts as well as the FZR ones are too long: Engine cradles are different - use the original FZ ones: Rads are different - as are the hoses: I used the original FZ radiator but the hose off the FZR fits better although I'll have to drill and tap the frame to make it secure. Tomorrow is Christmas day so its time to play happy families...No more fun for a coulple of days! Mike

She aint pretty but...The mongrel lives. Things really have been thrown together just to make sure everything works. I took pictures of the brackets I made for the oil cooler but, to be honest they are an embarrassment. In my defence, they're only temporary. The original FZR exhaust fitted ok after making a minor mod to the rear footrest and The FZR ignitor plugged straight in. The engine sounds a bit tappy - hopefully that will be sorted when its shimmed. The chain was from the original Genesis FZR and is way too long. At least I can see that the sprockets line up. I was also able to go through the gearbox which - I have to say, feels clunky and agricultural. I was expecting something nice and slick. Makes me wonder what the engines been through. It might just be that it was because it was off the ground - when the back wheel is down I think the clunk will be damped out. Next thing to do is put all the fairing panels back on to make sure I've got all the nuts and bolts. Anybody know where I can get the rubber grommets/bolts for the fairing infill that is in the middle of the 2 halves and joins the fairings together? After its all back together - I plan to strip it down and do things properly...Which could take a little while. youtu.be/hLJmrJx1n0IMike

Hi forgot to say - for anyone else doing the conversion of the Exup backend - I used these dogbones: But they were too short. The shock still hits the linkage when the spring is compressed. Alliekat used 156mm dogbones but she also used a different shock I think. Because I've used the original Exup shock it makes things different again. The guy I got the bones off will make whatever size I require so I'm going to try 158mm - will let you know if it works so it may help others. Mike

Hiya , i first used an exup standard shock then a thunderace shock with spacers at the top. As i said it runs very close to the arm, but i found that by turning the spring on the shock i could use the gap in the spring coil to create the clearance needed.
oh if i remember clearly 1mm on or off the bones is equal to 4.5mm lift or drop for the rear end
