Glad there's still a good forum for the FZ750, a great bike that didn't sell as well as it should've. Have recently bought a white/blue 1986 1FN, like the one I had in 1988 It needs a little tidying, but it's in decent condition. I've jumped off the new bike merry-go-round, actually a number of years back and have had loads of fun working on my small collection of oldies but goldies. My main memory of the FZ was of a mid-range packed engine, that ate an RD500 I encountered once - I was upset for the RD, as I liked 2 strokes - whether caning it through the gears or when rolling on in a gear, my FZ ate the RD. Bikes have changed, performance has increased, weight has decreased, but a good bike is still just that - I won't be selling this FZ after a year like I did first time round. I was shocked at the lack of rear tyre width after getting my FZ, looked fine back then (quite beefy even !) - like many, I will probably fit something that accepts modern rubber, 160x 17 would be fine I think and if I do that I'd better fit a 17 inch front so I can fit a radial on there too - from reading various posts it sounds like a bit of work might be needed to fit a wider rear rim and getting it centralised.... That's in the future though. Anyway hello to anyone dropping by. Nick

Hello Nick thanks for registering with us. As you've no doubt seen there's not much wheel wise that will fit the standard FZ rear arm but FZR1000 Genesis arms are cheap & bolt straight in which accept wider hubs. Still need a bit of machining for spacers but it's nothing drastic. TRX850, FZR600, Thundercat wheels don't look too out of place. Then you're on to the front.. . Good luck. You have my favourite colour scheme for the FZ so that's a great start!

Cheers Graham ! The 1FN has an odd rear suspension linkage, is it straight forward using FZR1000 linkage ? I've got a wp shock on the back, so would like to carry on using that.
Spacers and the like are easy enough to make, I feel a winter project coming on . . . !

There is/was a link on here showing various widths of various Yamaha rear arms front & back. Can't be sure with the 1FN but I thought they were the same as 2MG where they mount to the frame. I have a 1FN frame here & the distance between the mounts is 255mm give or take half a mm. I also have what looks like a TRX850 swinging arm which is also 255mm with bearing caps fitted so that should work without too much effort. Gap for a wheel is 260mm on the TRX arm, more like 250mm on my FZR1000 Gennesis arm. That's about all i can tell you right now.

Nick, welcome from one of the only other folk not deserting to FB!
I snapped up a parts bike about a year ago for pennies - even came with 2 motors! The rear has been swapped and teh rear tyre is HUGE. I'll take a pic and read the tyre size some time. It also came with some (loose) USD forks which I will sell on I think. The rear set-up I'll save fo that rainy day project ;-)

Thanks Jamie ! I don't do face book, wife does (a lot), I still like doing things and logging on to a website occasionally - you know, old fashioned style ! The standard rims limit tyres available and they seem to cost a fair bit more too. I'd be happy with a 160 tyre, good for nimbleness and more than big enough to cope with 85 - 90 hp.
I don't know how far to go with my 1FN, just better running gear I think. I went quite far with my GSXR1100 and it's easy to spend loads - I think the FZ will remain pretty std, just pepped up a bit to surprise newer bike riders from time to time - always fun !

Thanks Jamie ! I don't do face book, wife does (a lot), .. Yes my wife did that, probably still does - she left about 7 months ago after 17 years ('unhappy' - apparently..) , now she's with an (ex) mate of mine. Hey ho, still got me bikes.
