Thought I'd try start the old girl today.. Initially turned over OK but didn't start - it was cold) then failed to turn over at all Just showing the Neutral and oil lamp when the start button pressed..?
Suspected a connector so unplugged and re-plugged a few - no change..
Looking at the wiring diagram the start relay 'trigger' signal is L/W - Blue White which is shown entering the ' Turn Signal Relay) then exiting on the way to the start relay. Can anyone tell me where this 'Turn Signal Relay usually sits?
At one point I also noticed one of the connectors (the 3 x 3) had a mismatched wire (Blue one side an Black/White the other). The Blac/White is not shown in teh Clymer diagram and is indicated a L/B ?? The L/B code is not in the key but I guess should be Blue/Black if following their convention.

I found the Turn Signal Relay on the RHS by the headlight... Still not sure why it passes through the Turn relay/

I started to reply to this yesterday to say it was in the top fairing but then doubted myself as it's been so long since I saw mine I couldn't be sure. Didn't want to lead you on a wild goose chase. So is it fixed now?

HI Grahm
Thanks. Not had a another chance to check it today as the bike is store a few miles away. I need some croc-clip meter leads too to aid the fault tracing. I suspect corrosion or broken internal wire.. I might though bypass teh turn signal thingy.

Ok so I learn it's safe to bypass the Turn Signal/Safe_start relay by shorting the two Blue/White wires at the connector. Engine now turns over on the button but I think without spark (too cold to remove the tank and check all four last night). Am I right in thinking the black/white wire into the TCI (from sidestand switch/ relay) must be at earth for it to spark? Red/White I note should be 12V

Hi
I did solve this is the end and also found that the 'turn-signal relay' also features safety circuits (clutch sidestand etc..). Anyhow in this case I think my fault was a dodgy fuse on the ignition circuit was making and breaking!!

I am having a similar problem with a ratty old exup 1000 I'm building. Fitted an after market turn signal relay to replace the dud Yamaha item. Worked fine until the other day. Now when I turn on the ignition I get a neutral light but starter button is dead. Oil light illuminates when I prod the starter and I've noticed the fuel pump isn't priming with ignition.

Hi Graham - same symptoms. Turns out I think that all those things are ARE working (neutral light etc..) are on a different fuse/circuit to the ignition circuit. I think my problems might also have been compounded by a loose/broken connection from the blue-multiway connector to the turn signal relay.

I'll have to check all my fuses then. Can't keep buying flasher relays every few months. Cheers.
