Hi all, Just pick up a non-functional 1986 FZ750 It sat for almost 12 years due to lots of problems.
So far I've fixed the entire wiring harness and was able to get a t to crank over revealing no compression and a quick valve clearance indicated that every single valve was out of spec and have been completely unable to source the correct style valve adjustment pads so here I am. It's always a good idea to band together when old vehicles are involved anyhow.
I'm a pilot and an automotive mechanic with 12 years of Mechanic experience. I've built lots of engines and done lots of electrical repairs as well as typical stuff like rebuilding forks and rear shocks. Hopefully I can offer some technical knowledge for the group when needed.

Hi Spence. Shims for the FZ750, FZX750 (Fazer) & 1987-88 FZR1000/750 Genesis are the same. I'm not aware of another model in the Yamaha range that uses them. You will be looking for to replace your shims with smaller ones than you have fitted. The smaller ones are the hardest to get hold of now. You can ask on here for the sizes you require if you know them but the amount of visitors this forum gets is these days is small thanks mainly to the Facebook group. I have a small collection of shims but can never seem to put my hands on them whenever someone asks about them. I used a Yamaha dealer in Leicester for mine years ago. Alf England rings a bell. Fowlers in Bristol might be able to help. If you request to join the Facebook group there will be a much higher chance of someone being able to help. As a last resort you can have you existing ones ground down to the size you need but I've never looked into this. Good luck with it. I will look out for your membership request on Facebook.
