Keeping in mind what I do for a living I thought I'd have a go at covering it with some vinyl. Because of the complex shape there are a couple of ways of tackling this job. You could sew up a cover to slip over the pad but this would leave you with a visable seam and not be very attractive or, you could get some really stretchy vinyl and work it with some heat, which is what I did. I think it looks alright, the vinyl I have used would not exactly match the std seat vinyl but as I'm going to recover my seat thats not a problem as I'll use the same vinyl.

I don't know of anything that can be done with these pads to get them back once the top layer has worn away. TRX850 has one very similar which suffers in the same way. I just covered mine (TRX) with seat cover material & bolted it back on. Loving what you've done so far. You need a very clear image of what it will be like when finished in order to stay motivated I find. Thanks for the pictures, more of the same please.

I was looking at that one on E_bay, didn't buy it because of the condition of the vinyl....

i see the thunderace arm is in , what measurements did you use at the pivot point ? did you use fz bearings with spacers in the swingarm or bushes on the spacer shaft to suit the standard ace bearings ? have you checked the chain alignment yet ? seems to be lots of conflicting stories around . bike looks good so far

The arm is centralised and I used some top hat spacers to bring the diameter of the swing arm bearing down to the diameter of the FZ spindle. I'm unable to check the chain run because the motor isn't in............. we'll cross any bridges when we get to them, what could possible go wrong

Front and back end in place but still no shock, I've now stripped it back down as the frame's going of next week for powder coating.

Cheers Andy, thanks again for the templates. I was going to leave them with a machined surface but decided against it and took them today with a load of other parts to be vapour blasted.

Great job!!! PS: I envy all of you: here in Italy we can't even change wheels or exhausts without a risk of heavy heavy fines or even the motorbike confiscation!!!!
