This is going to sound a bit thick but - When the ignition is switched on a 1FN should i see a oil and neutral light on and on starting or cranking the oil light should go out. I only ask as i have one (see other posts in renovation) new to me and with ignition switch on i only have neutral light. Now if i leave the kill switch off and press engine start the oil light comes on with the press of the start button but goes out on release . Kill switch on fuel pump comes on but no oil light. It will start and sounds sweet but im not happy running engine without being sure of oil pressure. Where is the oil pressure sender to trace connections in loom or how can i check if oil pressure is good. Dave

I believe the red light is an "oil level indicator" as opposed to a low pressure warning, so when the red light comes on its time for a top-up, (I'm new to the FZ too)

kja is correct - lots of other Yamahas are the same. From memory, the oil light should come on when the starter is cranking (simply to indicate that it's working) and go out when the button is released. If your oil level is slightly low the light will often come on if the bike is cornering hard on roundabouts etc. There is an 8mm oil pressure check bolt on the offside of the cylinder head if you're worried about oil pressure.

My oil light comes on only when the starter button is pressed or the oil is low.

1) You shouldn't have the oil light on when the engine isn't running/started. Expect it to flicker when you are starting though. 2) the oil light is a level indicator, not pressure. 3) don't use fully synthetic oil, it confuses the sensor...
