Robbo, loved all the gold eye candy on your amazing build, the workmanship is first class! Regarding the gold paint, did you have it color matched? Was any of it off the shelf rattle can? If so what brand? Thanks...

The gold is powdercoat by a company here in the uk called Triple s. I always use them, I find the quality of their work to be as good as you will find.

Came across an alignment issue with the swingarm. The relay arm does not align dead center where it connects to the frame. It sits off to the left side a bit. For now I am using big washers as spacers on either side of the bushing(collar). LH side, one washer. RH side, bushing is sticking out a bit then 2 washers. RH side The nut is not tightened in the pic but I did tighten everything up and this is where it wants to sit. Nothing seems to be bent and it is probably not a big deal if it does not align dead center. How it looks when installed, sleeve end protruding. I could have the sleeve machined to remove the excess length and add another washer so there are 3 on the RH side and 1 on the LH side. I don't know what it was like when installed on the 1000. Was there a dust seal to keep crud out of the bearing? I have a PM to Yamglenn as he has done this, waiting to hear. Any ideas? Thanks, Kevin

If I remember right that is a sleeve that goes through the bearing, there shud be a dust cover with seal built in to slide on either end, that should then sort ant spacing issues out.

Getting little bits done here and there. Finished the wheels, resurfacing the rotors, new rubber coming on Friday... I was cleaning gunk off the relay arm and discovered bad stuff. I bought the relay arm, shock and dogbones together a few months back for $25 on Ebay. Should have cleaned it then, wire brushed off the grime today and found hairline cracks on both sides. Lesson learned. Found two more today on Ebay, asked both sellers to inspect the part for cracks, should have something lined up this evening. Digging through boxes of spares that came with the donor bikes I pulled out this Supertrapp dual exhaust for an FZ. It's a bit rough now but I'm going to clean, paint and polish it up and see if I can Ebay it. No idea on an asking price... A bit off topic but heres a pic of a rifle I built a couple of years ago for an online contest here in the states. Thought I might enjoy shooting as a new hobby but didn't keep my interest. Got third place out of 40 entries then put it away. Anyhow, I just sold it for bike funds, hence the new tires, sprockets, rebuild kits ect. Lest I forget... Nice teeth...

I posted a while back about the offset/misalignment of the FZR relay arm into the FZ frame. With the bearing sleeve wanting to protrude from the right side I'm considering having the 2mm length removed and having three spacers on the right side and one on the left. This will have the spacers rubbing against the relay arm. If the bearing and sleeve are greased does anyone see a problem with this? This way at least the spacers will seal off the roller bearing and sleeve from crud getting in there and these are not torqued very tight. Still hung up here between the cracked relay arms ect. trying to go forward. Thanks

I'm a bit perplexed by the cracks and trying to work out which way it is flexing to cause those. Welding them will temporarily repair the crack but not strengthen the arm to prevent it cracking again. It needs at least two gussets welding in to try and prevent the flex that's causing the cracks. I would have expected it to crack radially, not laterally if it was going to crack at all. I'm gonna have to get my head under my two now and have a look.
