Hey all,
Going to look at a 1985 FZ750 tonight and hoping to buy. Its from a co-worker that I have a good relationship with and he says the last thing he wants to do is screw me over. I havent seen the bike yet but am curious if anyone has any advice on big things to look for...keep in mind, he only wants 300 bucks for this thing. It has been sitting in a garage for the last 2 years so i figure i will have to pull and clean the carbs minimum. He also says that the wire for the ignition has given him some trouble and will need to be replaced. He is sure it isnt the CDI. I am looking to get this thing, put about 200 bucks into it tops and use it as a commuter. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Nick

Best idea is to test ride it. If it goes okay up to 7k and then just goes mental till 12k revs, theres little wrong with it.
There will be a vibration at around 4-5k, they all do it. You should be able to feel it through the handlebars but shouldn't be arm rattling.
CDi's either work or not work. They don't get temperamental. They just break and stop working altogether.
A new ignition is about £20. Provided you get the right one (there are three different types as far as I can tell), you can swap the electrical internals into the old one and keep the original key.

Pretty sure that fz750horse posted a video of how to start a bike that hasn't been running for a while but I'm buggered if I can find it...

No it was John Ohonaloohoo. Posted vid on you tube. He must be the luckiest FZ owner in the whole world. I would expect one that's been stood for any length of time to run like a bag of shite until the carbs have been removed, stripped & cleaned to within an inch of their lives!
