Hi guys,
Looks like I've found myself a 1FN 750 arriving shortly, so in preparation for the 911 build a question,
On the 1FN engined 911 will the genesis 1000 rods be the right length ( from the donor fzr1000 ) or do they have to be from the 750 2MG ?
Have looked at the many threads on the 911 but couldn't see anything on the 1000 rods.
Also, on some of the threads, the 750 head seems to be the way to go but is there much difference if the 1000 head is used ? Primary use for the bike will be the classic TT parade August 2016 and I know it's not a race but be nice to have the bike at it's optimum, especially as I'm an old bloke now and need all the speed I can get.
Was going to use yzr750 36 mm carbs as recommended in some of the threads, but very open to any suggestions or recommendations as some of you have much experience of the 911, unlike myself !!
Any help, comments much appreciated.
Thanks Paul

I can't comment on the FZR1000 conrods as I used Carrillo rods on mine but I would imagine that they'll be close. The smaller 750 head will give you a better midrange than the 1000 head as the smaller ports will aid midrange but not be as good at the top end compared to the 1000 head. The same has been done with the Suzuki GSR750 compared to the GSXR750. As far as I'm concerned, if you're not racing then the sensible thing is to go with the 750 head (less expense). I have used FZR1000 Exup carbs (same as YZF apparently) on mine and it has improved the performance but you will have to find a good engineer to modify the inlet stubbs for you. Good luck

Hi Paul
I built a 911 with an 88 FZ750U using standard 750 rods with 750 head and carbs. I don' believe you can use 85/86 conrods. Don't know about the FZR1000 rods either - is the big end the same diameter as the 750 rod?
As Wheaty said, keep the 750 head and carbs and it will make good torque from down low. Mine made in excess of 60ft/lb from 3,500 to 10,000rpm with a peak of 70. 108rwhp at 9500rpm, after which it fell away.
I tried using 37mm FZR1000 carbs, but it lost power everywhere.

Forgot to mention that the exhaust ports are a restriction, so if you're going to use the 750 head then it would be worth getting it flowed if your engine's in bits. I also had issues with clutch slip when I had mine done and ended up uses FZR1000 and OW01 clutch springs and plates to try to cure it. Good luck
