Please can anyone tell me if its pos to fit FZR1000 carbs to a FZR750 .I am having problems finding a good set of carbs for my 1988 FZR750 .She runs dog rough and will not run at all on one cylinder without me pouring fuel down the carbs .i have had the carbs ultrasonically cleaned but no better . My second FZR will start but as soon as you touch the throttle she cuts out any ideas please .

Have you played with the jets? If she is cutting when you touch the throttle, it might be that you're flooding the carbs. I guess it goes without saying that you rebuilt the carbs when you had them cleaned (i.e. new needles, gaskets, etc.) but I just want to confirm. I think that your carbs just need to be tuned and not replaced.

I cannot claim to be an expert but I would tend to agree with roninrun and suggest trying different needle settings. It sounds like the engine is flooding when you twist the throttle. Maybe try dropping the needles. It only takes a few minutes and it certainly won't hurt anything to try.

I don't know if the carbs will swap over sorry. I agree with roninrun, the answer is to persevere and set them up correctly, it's a bummer when these things are happening but I'm sure between us we can get it sorted!! Carb balancing, needle settings etc, etc. Have you had the bike running with the airbox off? I would start by taking the tank/airbox off and set up a temporary fuel tank up and see what's happening, I suspect that you have sticking needle/slide or knackered diaphragm for the cylinder that's not doing anything. Just check to see if the slide is moving when you rev it? Give us some more info and I'm sure we can get a direction for you.

Where are you? What are the engine number prefixes? What size jets are installed? What exhaust and inlet arrangement? What are the air screw settings? What TCI boxes are fitted If you have 2LM engines they're Japanese imports and are restricted in several ways, including the TCI, so need completely different carb settings to 2TT or 2NK engines. Having one air screw 1/4 turn different to the rest will stop that cylinder running. A really common problem with these carbs is the needle jet wearing oval, allegedly often after only 5000 miles, leading to a massive rich spot off-idle which cannot be tuned out no matter what you do with the needles. 2TT/2NK engines have different cams and it might be possible to use 37mm carbs but I've heard they're difficult to set up and most people prefer the 34mm ones. 37mm carbs on a restricted 2LM engine would be pointless and probably a complete ball-ache. We definitely need more info...
