i was removing the pistons this morning and i must have hit just the wrong spot with my pliers while removing the circlip, because this happened: chippedpiston2 by polyrhythmic81, on Flickr chippedpiston1 by polyrhythmic81, on Flickr I'm guessing there's no chance of reusing this piston now..?? can i buy just one new piston or use a good piston from another engine? shit.

As long as your rings are in good order, the chip in that position should not affect the performance of the piston. Make sure there are no sharp edges sticking proud or there are no cracks radiating from the damage.

good to know. i'll probably end up boring oversize anyway. i've got till the spring to decide. i'm assuming i can use fz750 pistons. the '87 fz700 pistons have been discontinued. does anyone know if they are the same? i know the bore is the same, but i'm not sure about the wristpin diameter...or if there are any other dimensions that may be different... the .5 over piston p/n for the 700 is 2kt-11636-00-00 for the '86 750, it is 1ae-11636-00-00 (still available)
