Karl there's loads of info on this in here if you can find it but in brief the early 1ae isn't as easy to convert as the 2mg. Con rods hit the cases on 1ae engine. 2mg bottom end, FZR1000 Genesis (pre exup) barrels, pistons, carbs & cylinder head. I believe you can use the FZ head if you wish. Something about smaller valves giving good mid range. I just chucked the entire engine from Genesis 1000 in my FZ. Only 5 gears but the time I saved from not having to build an engine was used well all last summer riding the damn thing!

Thanx Graham I'll look harder Do u know if the yzf cams go in and do u have to relieve the pistons on the crowns ( 750 engine ) there's not a lot of thickness on the std liners 4 a big bore kit so was wondering if u have to resleeve the block do u know which is a popular piston 4 a big bore if available I know Kent cams in the uk used to do cams but they said not any more thanx heaps 4 replying there was a guy on here called scobri I think that had some 1st Oversize pistons new ones and rings but he's never replied happy days just got a PDF file sent to me from practical sportsbikes uk quite a gd article although it would seem parts availability is making it harder to keep our bikes on the road cheers Karl nz

Scot Brierly. I met him around 6 years ago when I bought a Thundercat rear wheel from him. He appeared to be selling all of his Fz spares & moving on to the CBR600 for his racing. Unfortunately I'm not a wealth of knowledge on this subject but there are a few who are on the facebook page. If you ask on there I would advise you only heed those who talk from experience & not the ones who are just repeating what they've heard/read.

Hi Karl, hopefully you'll find this useful.
If using the 1ae motor, you'll need the later 2mg conrods, also have to open up the crankcase by a few mm to take the larger barrel, on the 2mg the barrel drops right on.
You'll also need genesis 1000 barrels and pistons, so no need to re-sleeve. Barrel can be used as a bolt up, but for optimum compression, needs skimming by about a mm to get the clearance right as the 1000 barrel is slightly higher, but bike will run fine without the skim if you don't want too.
I'd run the 750 head as makes for a great motor with none of the mid range problems that some of the 750's have, so makes for a better 750.
Use standard 1000 genesis gaskets for base and head.
Yzf750 cams will work and no you shouldn't need to machine the pistons, but good practice to check when doing a build like this with different cams, machined barrel etc etc that nothing touches.
So you can make a 911 as easy or as complex as you want. The bolt up option is as easy as building a stock motor, or more complex by machining, cams, porting, carbs etc etc.
I've run a bolt up for the last 2 years, never missed a beat, now going down the complex route by building a 961.
Regards Paul
