Hello,
just wanted to introduce me and my bike as I am new to the forum. Jan is my name (male!) and why xmjan - well I used to drive (or rather float) a Citroen XM and my alias on the swedish Citroen forum (called "Citroenakuten" which translates to "the Citroen emergency" - a most appropriate name) was XMJan!
Pushing 60 I used to ride Elsies and YPVS - both racing and on the roads of southern Sweden. I still have one RD350LC (1982) in the basement waiting for restoration. Now we retire at 67 in Sweden so it will have to wait a bit for that.
I have ridden a Ducati Monster 900Sie since 2011 but when I came across an FZ 750 a few months ago I simply couldn't resist! To me it is a true 80:ies icon!! I love the half fairing exposing that 5-valve engine and the sweeping lines of the rest of the bodywork...
The FZ has a bit of a strange history - I am the fourth owner and the bike stood at a dealer from 1985 until 2002 (why I have asked myself).
The second owner changed fork and wheels to what I believe is from a later FZ. I am trying to reach him to get all the details... The owner also ditched the original exhaust for a later FZ system but chopped off the original silencer and replaced it with Suzuki unit!! I have purchased an original 4to1 system from 1989 and will remove the center stand to make it fit. I hope it will look and sound OK. May be a bit too silent....
I experience the FZ as much more comfortable compared to the Monster and the character of the engine is of course quite different in comparison!
Now a question to the forum members: What is your starting procedure? Full choke no trottle? Full trottle no choke? Other? I ask since I feel my FZ is a bit hard to start when cold... A common problem or just my problem?
All the best and keep that wire tight!!
/Jan
PS I will try to post a picture of the FZ later on....
