Word of advice...treat everyone as if they are an idiot until such time as they prove otherwise.
That way you don't get your loom hacked about by a moron.....

Hi Kenny are you using an early engine with a later loom? or visa-versa? There are differences but what you are doing as far as \I can establish is get the bike to run without a battery and :'(alternator etc. so there is a whole chunk of wiring that you can do without (brake lights indicators neutral light etc) HOWEVER the safest way is to get the bike running with all the gubbins on then just disconnect things one by one checking the bike runs at the same time JUST disconnecting things, Then when all the 2 kilos of loom which you don't need have been disconnected tape them up and run the bike for as long as you are sure that you don't need the wire. Then you can cut them off one by one but still tentatively. The FZ wiring loom is like a rat's nest at 25 years old....and needs to be treated like that!

1FN engine with a part hacked loom at the moment. Kill switch is on/off. Starter works on start button, neutral light comes on (an off in gear) oil pressure light comes on.....but battery drains fast, I think its the rev counter grey wire (always live even when on/off is off) and orange wires to clocks live too. I suspect its the flow in an out of the diode and the blue wire, but prefer to start again on my own. May disconnect grey wire and try to start the bike (not checked for spark yet though). Scrambled brain farts

Would you not be better off using a race tacho that uses it's own power source? And a simple kill switch. Using an old loom that's been cut about gives you potential for a fail.

agreed, but this one is so chopped I cannot help thinking even if I disconnect the power to the grey wire something else will fault.
best start again.
that 1ae on fleabay will that fir a 1fn also there are a couple of fzr1000 looms on offer...........or should I just wait to get a 1fn one.
does anyone know of a later camshaft setup that fits the early 1fn engine too?
