Hi everybody. My name is Fabio and I write from Italy. Next week I'm going to guy a '85 1FN FZ750. I have some questions to ask you:
1. Shock absorbers: wich one is better? Ohlins is too much expensive, are there other manifacturer where I can buy something alternative to the yamaha one? Is the shock absorber the same of FZR?
2. Mirrors: original ones are really terrific. Does anybody know if 1999 Yamaha Fazer or Yamaha R1/R6 will fit?
3. Exhaust: any suggestion for an aftermarket 4 in 1?
4. What about cone intake air filters? Do they give improvements?
5. Other "soft" improvements? (brakes, fork oil, and so on...)
Thank you!

Hi Fabio, I am awaiting delivery of a 1FN and I am hoping that it will have the original rear shock absorber. The first 1fn's had a great little chain driven gizmo which adjusted the shock-something very rare to find these days and to my knowledge do not exist on the 2mg models. As for the exhaust, I am thinking you have the original 4 into two exhaust as thw climate in Italy does not rot the exhausts the same. Well I have a great 4 into one system and I will gladly come across to Italy on my bike and swap you for the original 4 into 2 - they are like hen's teeth!! as for all the little tuning bits-if you can redline the bike in all gears then maybe you could think about mods. Any photos of your bike would be welcome on here////

If you red-line the bike in all gears you are fucking nuts..... That is the point I was making-you can't use the bike to it's maximum anyhow on the roads so what is the point of tuning and sacrificing other things like fuel consumption? The FZ's thrive on visiting the redline (once fully warmed up of course) and because the valves and springs are small and light the bike will rev cleanly right through the redline (the rev limiter only comes in at 11,800 RPM) but you have to make sure you are positive with the gear shift.... www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/yamaha/yamaha_fz750%2085.htm

Thanks to everybody for the replies. Crusty: thanks a lot for the link but I really don't like original mirrors and I would like to change them with some others less "squared". So I though about R6-R1 mirrors. john: thank you for the suggestion But I think that even if I'll change original exhaust system for a 4in1 I will keep also the old one! Anyway if you are planning to visit Italy a beer is ready for you! About the "redline zone": my wish is not to improve top speed performances but the "smmothness" and usability of the bike. I haven't understand very well the plus of the shock absorber that John talk about! Last thing about the pictures: I tried to place them but I wasn't able to! I don't know why! PS: I apologize if my english is poor, specially about technical terms! Have a little patience!

fabrik your English is more than adequate for us lot so don't worry there my friend. You need to host your pictures on a web site such as photobucket ot similar. There is a "how to" thread on here somewhere. I will see what I can do for you later when I finish work.

Lovely looking bike. That is the difference with the stock over in places like Italy-it just doesn't rust the same as the stuff round here.

Thank you John. I must admit that is a bike that has been used by good people and in the picture it is very dirty!!! When I'll clean it up I'm sure it will be much much better! The only thing I'm sad about is the colour of the engine that is gone....
