Hi All, Starting to work on the FZ racer project. Have fitted the 17x3 front wheel and 18x4 rear. I'm going to shorten the lower shock linkages to increase ride height and slight steepen steering angle. It looks like I can increase the rear height by 50mm in this way. I presume other racers/riders have increased ride height ? am I likely to upset the handling with a 50mm increase? or can I go further? Your thought appreciated. Cheers Red

50mm seems like a lot to me. I raised my TRX rear by making shorted links which improved feel at the front but only went up around 30mm. I also dropped the front 20mm. I would expect to run in to clearance problems from the shock & arm trying to raise 50mm but am wiling to be proved wrong.

Cheers Graham, You're right on the shock/swingarm clearance, at 50mm the spring is sitting against the swingarm. Will settle on 35mm which should give clearance clarence, then muck around with fork height once she is rolling.

I tried 5mm shorter dog bones but found it completely buggered up the spring rate. I ended up using a 15mm longer shock which was the most I could lengthen it without sawing the swingarm in half with the chain

i went for thunderace shock ( spacer at the top), exup arm and and 156mm dogbones, plus exup rear wheel exup front end as well. rode it the other day and has transformed the handling, It used to feel to twitchey and fall into slow corners but it is very neutral now and shorter wheel base as well. ;D

Thanks for the info FZHorse, Alliecat, have spent quite a few hours pouring over the pics of your bikes nice job on both counts. Tons of good info from your racebike build FZHorse. This is a low budget build for now so the FZR fork/swingarm swap will have to wait unfortunately. I'm just focusing on improving braking, handling, seriously reducing weight and some mild intake/exhaust mods. I have a rebuilt RF900 shock here that is 10mm longer than the stock FZ shock and has a remote reservoir with adjustable comp and rebound. It looks like it will fit with a just top spacer. I'll do some homework on the spring rates to see if its suitable, sounds like its a better option. I presume a 17T front sprocket will help with the swingarm sawing ? Cheers Red

17T on the front does help but it meant I was using 5 gears on a lot of circuits. IMHO 16T is better and isn't too hard on the swingarm slider.
