Hi All
I'm sure this has been covered on many of the other FZ,FZR sites all over the net, but I seem to find different ways of doing it on them all!
First of all does anyone here have first hand experience of doing this conversion?
Many threads say you have to machine 5mm of the rear sprocket carrier, others say you don't.
I have already have the bearings I need to use so that I can fit the FZ spindle into the Exup arm, but not sure about which linkage, dog bones and shock to use?
Cheers
Gary

pretty sure Alliekat has an EXUP arm fitted to her FZ. You could send her a message or wait until she reads this.

I done this conversion a few years ago on one of my previous FZ`s & is very easy. To make it easy for yourself as I did get a complete exup rear end including shock & linkage so you then fit a complete assembly. If you follow the instructions that Chris Hall did on FZ750.net it is quite detailed & is very good direction to go.The only things I had to different was to space out my footrest hangers, slightly shorten the front pipes on my exhaust & machine out the shock tunnel as the spring fouled on it, but other wise follow word for word & you will not be far wrong. Use a good quality shock & if you can get away with it a lighter wheel.

Have a spare R6 rear wheel so going to fit that, have also managed to get hold of a YZF750R Shock.

yes as Scorbi said really, i put a recess in a 17 tooth front sprocket to re align the chain , about 5 mm or so, the tunnel had to be opened out to clear the shock. i used 156mm between center dog bones , all exup linkages, exup bones to long fz to short. thunderace shock with a a spacer made for the top as it is a thinner fitting, my remus pipe had to be alltered by a cut and weld under the engine to allow clearance with swing arm. the footrest plate heel part had to be cut off as they also hit the arm, i have some raask rearsets now but they will have to be altered a bit as they to hit the arm. Got it mot'd today and took so pics i will post some later

As far as alignment goes,I had used a 4mm spacer behind the front spocket & ground of the shoulder on sprocket so I could still use the lock tab.It will depend which shock you use as to the top mounting modification,I used a YZF750 rear shock with the spacer made for it.I used the standard dog bones & found the ride height was ok. As far as gearing goes you may need to start around the 47 tooth mark at the rear to stop the chain digging into chain runner & swing arm. I know you are using on track. If you check out the owner registry on fz750.net, i think mine is no 82 with a photo. The footrest hangers again I just spaced mine out the 10mm spacers& longer bolts but again you may have some different hangers in mind.

When i used the exup dog bones though i did find it sat very low , i was using a n exup shock at the time , wonder if that makes a difference. The thunderace one is great witht the 156mm bones though , taxed today yay,

That's looking great, missy-the-kat. Well done for all that hard work and getting a great result. The new angle of the can matches the lines of the bike so much better

hi i see in previous posts that some people have replaced the bush at the top of various shocks to enable them to fit an fz. can any one suggest where i can get a bush to fit a thunderace shock ? thanks

Did you use the standard 2mg dogbones ? i was thinking of a bit more ride height and might be able to squeeze them in as i have about 8mm clearance for the shock through the swing arm. so with the bike on its wheels it might clear although with no weight on the rear wheel it would hit.
