The fuel level is not connected on my bike.. there is a 2 wire plug on the tank but I cannot see anywhere for this to connect to. Anybody have any pics or can give me a step by step where to hook it up or what the connector should look like/location?

The plug should just go onto a matching 2 wire socket on the harness, I think they were either green or white but both parts should be the same colour. Yamaha were pretty good about using different plug/socket combinations so it's near impossible to get it wrong IF you've got standard connectors...

the only thing I can see is a three wire connector in the wiring harness by the CDI that does not have anything plugged into it - could the bike possibly have an earlier tank than 87? Did Yamaha change connectors over the years?

from memory there are a few plugs in that area, side stand switch & oil level sensor but can't remember how many or what colour wires they have sorry. My bikes (FZ's) & my manual are at a mates house so I can't easily check either but will try & get a manual from him after work today if I remember.

Hey FlyRLo,
I forgot to take a picture last night but I did look at it. The plug you're looking for comes along the frame on the shifter side of the bike and is tucked in tight. It's back just below where the front of the seat hooks in.
Let us know how you make out and if you still need a pic.

ok, I had a good look in the area - I think we are both talking about the same area - and all I see is a flat 3 wire connector but the tank has a 2 wire connector

Still no luck with this one. I really think I have a tank from an earlier model bike with a 2 wire plug and my bike has a 3 wire plug

Had the tank up on one of mine today so I thought I'd take you this pic. As you can see... the wiring colours are green, green and red, black.
