I usually like to keep my race engines stock except for intake/exhaust mods for the sake of reliability and longevity. But as I'm about to strip the engine to fix the gear box and do piston/rings I wondered if its worth bumping compression a little to power up a bit. I beleive stock is 11.2:1. Has any one increased compression in their 750 engine with either thinner gaskets or head machining ? If so how much was removed or what thickness gasket was used and was it worth while power wise, was it reliable and what octane fuel did you run.
Or is the piston to valve clearances to tight?
Appreciate your thoughts

"Running 12;1 compression this (2mg) engine gave 102bhp in Superstock trim." - Tony Scott in PB magazine.

I just stumbled on this old thread. If anyone's interested, Steve Jordan got my compression up to just under 12/1 by removing one leaf of the three part OE head gasket. I haven't checked the power since but it feels a lot crisper - I suppose it ought to after a refresh though ;D Steve advised 97 octane only
