Hi I brought my FZ a few months ago with the intention of putting it back to its former glory, but with most flea bay buys its got more wrong with it then i thought(i haven't got that much money at the moment).
So I'm looking to do a decent street fighter or a cafe racer out of it, so i was wondering if anyone could give me some info on what upgrades would be good. I'm looking at maybe a single sided swing arm.
Also the previous owner thought it would be a good idea and cut a big lump off the sub frame (its now as long as the seat only), so it didn't come with the right fairing. Is it worth cutting the whole sub frame off and doing something special with it.
Thanks in advance Matt

Speak to one of our resident racers, they're bound to have a spare subframe and the rear panels are pretty cheap.

No expert but I would have thought the cost of a single sided rear arm & all the parts you would need to make it work/fit would be enough to pretty much sort the rest out? I think street fighter style suits them if you're on a budget. Straight bars, twin headlights, minimal seat unit etc. Whatever you do with the rear sub frame, make sure it's strong enough for lateral forces & not just weight bearing down from an upright position type thing. Just my tuppence worth like.

I did forget to say its a 1985 FZ 750 Hi Matt, just for interest what is the engine number? Has it done a high mileage? It sounds to me like it is ripe for a full restoration-taking your time with it and doing it with spare cash you have on a monthly basis bit by bit so you don't notice it. In the meantime if you want something to ride round on get yourself a YZF 750 they are brilliant bikes and are going for little money right now. Here is one that the guy has spent around £1500 on went for just over 600 snotters. Get one of these and you would have the first Genesis of 85 and the last of 95. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-YZF750R-Long-MOT-99p-Start-No-Reserve-/270786732156?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item3f0c25a07c
