I'm going to be repainting some of the black bits and pieces such as fork lowers, yokes, handlebars, footpegs etc and in the past I've tried stuff like Hammerite (smooth!) but found it seems to stay soft for a hell of a long time so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a particular type/brand of paint that gives a really tough, hard finish. I intend to spray rather than brush!

Plastikote aerosols are a little expensive but a decent finish and quite durable

I've had good results using PJ1 Fast Black epoxy. It claims to be harder than OE paint and it probably is, especially if you bake it. It's gloss rather than satin though.

thanks for the replies, yes, I was wondering about baking, do you think the misses would complain much if I stuck the parts in the oven for an hour or so?

Mine's alright about it so long as I don't tell her. It takes about an hour for the extractor fan to get rid of the smell
