Thinking of racing the FZ in Post Classic next year so need to prepare a shopping list:
pre-exup FZR1000 front end complete - does this give me a 17" wheel so I can use decent rubber (Racetec?), I've heard early R6 front end would also slot straight in?
rear swingarm also off an FZR1000? how much machining etc is reqd to get it to fit? does it need shortening?
rear shock?
is all this going to upset the handling?
steering damper?
exhaust - currently its got a Remus 4-1 which seems rather low and really heavy so I guess its got to go!
rearsets?
..blimey! may be not as cheap an option as I first thought!!!
what about leaving it pretty much as std and trying some Avons or Pirelli Sport Demon tyres or is that a complete no-no?

No machining required to fit pre exup rear arm & wheel. Just noticed your location, less than 20 miles from me.

Hi Ken, yes I'd be interested in the wheels, but I thought the FZR1000 rear was an 18"? ..how much you looking for? are discs etc included?

Just out of interest, how come FZR1000 bits are ok if 2mg FZs aren't eligible? Sounds like it's not strictly policed if someone is using R6 forks, which are a huge improvement. Unless no one worries if it's not winning ? ;D

started re-reading your Manx project Ken and I see you had to modify your 1FN frame to suit the FZR1000 swinging arm so its not a straight swap then?
..this is starting to look/get complicated (and I'm no engineer, don't have welding gear etc!)

not all the wording, but goes something like of a type, appearance and manufacture in year. 2MG is a 1986 and different to a 1985. However the FZr1000 early has same forks in appearance just larger dia..swing arm same.......its a shame some try to use R6 forks no way legal or an exup swing arm again not legal. I assembled my bike strictly within the rules its a shame all bikes are not.
Maybe you have a point!!! if it was winning (I know the lad and his heart is in the right place).
Anyhoo, I have a race shock for next year and looking to improve power delivery. More miles on it before it goes in 2012 too.

if you are looking to use wider wheels in an early 1FN model,85/86 use a swingarm off a FJ1100 not 1200 as the suspension linkage is exactly the same, you should be able to bolt in a 1000 genesis wheel of an exup wheel with a little modification. Shorten the front steel part of the linkage around 7mm which should give you a slightly taller ride height than standard to cope with the little wheels.
