First I will apologise in advance for repeatedly swearing whilst typing this but I am extremely pissed off by the whole affair so cut me some slack please.
Earlier this year I replaced my trusty old Honda Fireblade with a Fazer 1000 for practicality reasons & duly swapped my insurance cover form Honda to Yamaha. I only intend to sell the Fireblade if things get really tight so with plenty of tax remaining I parked it up in my garden & left it alone. I'm guessing 3 or 4 months passed before I received a letter from the DVLA stating that my Fireblade had come up on their database as being an uninsured vehicle. It went on to say I needed to either insure it sharpish or fill in/out? a statutory off road notification form & return the tax disc for a refund. I got the refund form (V14 from memory), stuck the disc to it as instructed & posted it back within a week of the original letter. 2 weeks later I get another letter asking me to confirm that I had done something about it in the form of a SORN confirmation letter from themselves or I would have to pay a £100 fine. I returned the letter with one of my own saying that I would gladly send the confirmation letter back when/if I receive it. 2 weeks later I get a fine for £100. Has anyone ever tried to find a phone number for the DVLA? For the record there is a site called "say no to 0870" or something for such occasions. Where was I? Ah yes, I called them to say I had done everything they asked of me & why where they still pestering me etc. It turns out I omitted to tick a lousy box on the back of the V14 form to say the bike was off the road??? I foolishly assumed the form with my tax disc stuck to it was enough for them to realise I had no intention of using the bike on the road & therefore, was declaring it "off the fucking road".. . but no. Having cleared that up (or so I thought) I hung up thinking I had heard the end of it all. 2 weeks later, I receive a cheque for £23.00 for the remaining tax then the next day, another letter saying that my situation had been reviewed & they could see no reason why I shouldn't pay the fine. Wankers. The original letter said that if I paid within 2 weeks the fine would be reduced to £50. This one, days before Christmas just gave a number to call with my payment of £100.
I am so pissed off with this as I had no idea I needed I needed to SORN a bike that was taxed. I'm guessing my time for doing nothing is rapidly running out but paying them £100 when I feel that I've done nothing wrong is not something I can bring myself to do. Any suggestions?
