I am new here, For some strange reason i put a bid on Ebay for a FZ 750 1987, and won it, strange as i have been trying to find a 1985 model, It is a non runner, runner when parked up 5 yrs ago, i gotta tell you its a shed, but never mind it will keep me away from the telly for a while, Can any of you good blokes point me in the direction of a good Idiots guide to help me dismantle the FZ, sort of thing that tell you how too do this n that,, Hope to ride it by the summer, put a piccie on many thank, ride safe. Hello, thanks for registering. As far as getting it running I would first check for a spark at all 4 plugs then check for fuel. My money would be on the carbs needing stripping & cleaning out.. . as long as the engine's not seized? They are fairly simple to take apart (the bike). If you're not sure how good your memory is or how long it will be before it all goes back together then take pictures of stuff, label stuff & make notes about stuff. If you knew how I work then that makes me the biggest hypocrite (had to google that) going but hey ho. Congratulations on posting a pic of your bike without needing instructions but that has to be the smallest one I've seen on here! Where you from?

Morning Graham,
I am in Cheshire, yeah i thought that was a little small, the Ebay pic I will have to post a larger one,
I have no key for it yet so for now i cant turn it over, looking to take the ign switch off, to get a key cut, or hot wire it to see if i can turn it over,,
At the minute the throttle cables is siezed at the carb end, the connecting rod between carbs,
Thanks for the piccie tip, would u buy a Haynes, or Clymer, never seen the latter
Take Care C.2

Welcome aboard There is no Haynes manual, get a Clymer one off eBay (original one with the black cover preferred - the white cover one is a reprint and has a black and white wiring schematic). If your bike is 2mg type, the references to FZ700 in the Clymer manual are applicable. All the best.

'ello fellow cheshire person Above was good advice. Take you time stripping it, label every bit that comes off, bag up all the fasteners into seperate labeled bags for every part (fuel pump bolts etc) and take loads of pics.. might seem like a pain in the arse at the time, but makes life so much easier when it comes to putting it back together. On a plus note, i have just got my 'new' fj1200 running for the first time. It had been stood outside, uncovered, for over 4 years, all it needed was the fuel pump off my old fz, splash of petrol, wire up the battery from my volvo....then away it went ;D Has to say something about the build quality of yams from the mid 80's... So hopefully your motor will be fine.

I did find a site where you could download the Clymer manual for free. Can't remember where though.
It was in black and white and some pages were in the wrong order but it was free....
Have a hunt round and see what you can find on the internets. Unfortunately it's too big to send via E-mail....

I had a look recently for a manual on the net and could only find a copy in German.
I ended up just buying one on ebay in the end.
There's something to be said for actually having a manual so you don't have to run back and forth to a pc.
Be nice to have a back up though so let us know if you do find one.
Dismantling is the easy bit you shouldn't struggle with that putting it back together with no parts left over and it all working now that's the trickier part.
