I picked up a 2TT FZR750 engine at the weekend which I will rebuild and keep as a spare for when my 2mg one gives up. I think I've read that the exhaust port angle is slightly different on the FZR engine; will I need different headers or will there be enough play in the spring fastened Gibson exhaust system? Are there any other differences in the heads, i.e. could I use a 2mg head (with the FZR valve gear if needs be)? Any info will be gratefully received ;D

Christ mate you're normally the one "answering" people's tricky questions on here! Seems crazy to me that they made changes to the 750 engine when so many different models share the exact same components but what do I know.

I've been messing about with FZs since the early 90s but I'm a complete FZR virgin. I agree it seems mad but I'd heard about this before and assumed that it was just down to the position of the engine in the frame. However the bloke I bought it from had put a 1FN engine in the frame (don't ask ) and said that he'd had to cut and shut the FZR exhaust to get it to fit (Robbo350 will probably cry if he reads this ). I just thought someone who'd done the 911 conversion might have some experience.

thats weird , i tried an fz pipe on my Fzr and it fitted fine just rear bracket need to be moved., the exup downpipes i tried dont fit the FZR or the FZ, My fZR is an early one with a 1fm engine number. Bought a new pipe in the end as it was easier than trying to find a pipe or take the flats out of the FZ pipe i had.
oh the FZR had a 2mg standard pipe on it ( with rust holes) when i got it.

That sounds promising - I wonder if it was FZR1000 or FZR750R (OW01) that I'd read about having different header angles. Interesting about the 2mg pipe on the FZR - I think the OE FZR system had an extra fixing just aft of the collector that the 2mg didn't? I did have a system that I bought off eBay as FZ750 which had the extra bracket and wouldn't fit my 2mg - I sold it on as FZR750 but maybe it was FZR1000

The FZR engine that I'm doing the 911 on is a 1FM so hopefully there won't be any arse ache especially seeing as I've just finished fabbing the pipe and nearly finished the motor!
