Sooooo... I need some options on front forks... I took my FZR's fork tubes in to get some repairs done on the chrome two weeks ago and the shop that was sure they could do it ended up ruining one tube and telling me that they can't do hard chrome. Now I have a unique opportunity to get a newer fork but I'm not sure of what bikes are a direct fit, or at least minimal moddification. Any Ideas?

Forget direct fit without swapping the stem/yokes. FZR1000 Genesis stem/yokes, straight swap then you can chose from most Yamaha forks from 90's bikes. FZR600, TRX850, thunder cat etc.

I have the '88 FZR1000 Forks on there right now, and while I was looking around it looked like Yamaha moved on to 43mm forks shortly after they made the 41mm forks for the FZR. Kinda mad about that lol. Turns out Tarozzi still makes the fork tubes for the '87-'88 FZR1000 and better yet Wemoto carries them. So I think I'll just do that. only thing is that they're USD $315 shipped here... which is more than buying another fork on fleabay. BUT they'll be brand new and not 25 years old. Unless of course someone has a mint set of 87-88 FZR 1000 fork tubes laying around.

Also, Graham, what year FZR 600 forks did you use, and what front wheel/fender did you use?

I bought seals for a 95 FZR600 which seem to fit okay. It's the fox eye model that looks like a YZF750. Used YZF750 front fender, TRX850 wheel. ;D

So it sounds like my FZR 1000 wheel and fender may fit on those forks as well lol. Seems like Yamaha definitely made it easy on us DIY builders lol.

I think the only issue you might have will be disc size.

Yeah looks like the rotors are 298mm on the 600 and 317mm on the 1000. don't need to take on another project on my bike or re buy parts, the wife will kill me. Looks like I'll just repair the FZR forks I have. Interesting bit about my original FZ forks. Looks like the Japanese spec fork has dampening adjustablility at the base that the rest of the world market never got. They're kinda interesting looking not gonna lie lol.

Here's a fun fact, the seals and bushings for the fzr1000 genesis fork cross reference to the same parts as the ones in the yzf750 and yzf600! Makes a strong arguement for YZF forks since I was considering picking up a set and I have the FZR rebuild parts already. now all I need is the tripple tree and to pray my FZR wheel fits! (I looked it up, The FZR Genesis rim has a 15mm axle while the YZF750 has a 20mm.... lame)
