I now have a proper place in this forum.
So, hello everybody, my name is James and I'm from the east of england. As of about 3 hours ago I am now the proud owner of a 1991 Yamaha FZ750 Genesis. Some might say this is a bit of a weird choice as my first full size bike on a full license, but hey ho.
The bike itself is white and blueish grey, completely factory standard, and probably staying like that with the insurance being so ridiculously priced, and I've got considerably more money.
Anyway hopefully if I ever have problems you wise and experienced people will be able to help me out with it, and will talk to you all later.

Yes, Crusty, wise. The wisdom on this forum has already saved me a lot of money and aggravation in restoring my bike.
Welcome, James! I haven't seen a white and blue-gray paint job on an FZ750. Can you post a picture or two for my curiosity?
I'm also curious how much motorcycle insurance is in the UK. You see, here in the US for a fat, balding, middle-aged dad like me the insurance is only about $60 per year, or about $5 a month. When I was single and under 25 my insurance was shockingly high for the sports car I drove back then (an old MG Midget), getting gasps of astonishment from my parents at a whole $65 per month for liability only. I shudder to think what my kids will be paying for insurance in a couple of years, when they reach driving age.
Congratulations on the new bike.
Scott

Nice one James. Not a strange choice for your first big bike at all mate. Well done. ;D

Welcome to the board! Hopefully we can help with anything you need and congratz on your first FZ... From what I've experienced and seen so far: Once an FZ owner, always an FZ owner. Seems everyone I've know to have one either has the same one they bought when they were younger or they've had like 6 since then lol. But again, welcome!

Thanks for posting a pic of your new bike. I like that color scheme. My FZ700 needs repainting, and having seen yours I'm thinking I might take your white and dark metallic gray idea and see if I can pull off something acceptable with rattle cans and tape. That looks really sharp, and it's in great shape. I agree, it is a great "first bike" after getting your unrestricted license.

That's my bike......
incidentally, the headlight half of the fairing (from just below the green/turquoise line) was painted with rattle-cans.
