It is, thanks. I took it out for a brief ride yesterday, brief because the front tire is in such an awful state. New front is suppose to arrive on Monday now, so once that goes on I'll feel a bit more confident riding it. I have to admit it starts right up and goes. It warms up in about a minute and settles right down to a perfect idle. At this point, no complaints, going to look at the rear shock next, any advice? I gotta figure out how to compress the picture size so I can post a pic or two.

I have a Hagon rear shock in my FZ. Not sure what's available to you in the US but I hear YSS are decent for similar money to Hagon.

Front tire showed up, looking to drop it off on my way to work and get it changed out this afternoon. So I won't be able to pick it up till Wednesday, looking so forward to riding with two new tires. Looked up the prices on an aftermarket rear shock, $250-700, its not outta reach, but its smarts a little. We'll get back to ya after Wednesday, see ya then.
I've a thread on the Honda sohc4 Forum in the 'other bikes' section. Its listed as 85 fz750. There's pic's posted in that thread.

New rubber all the way around. Getting ready for a spirited spin. Pic quality stinks, but I'll get that figured out as well. Need to focus my attention on the exhaust next.

That looks lovely. Decals on the top fairing and it's done as far as I can see. I'd be well happy with that.

The graphics are coming, there's still a lot of small details that need attention, but it's getting there. I really have to get the exhaust up to snuff, need to get a modern rear damper, and going to have the seat recovered. It's all in the details, it just starts and runs so damn nice, I really can't not make it nice. When you compare it to what it looked like when I picked it up, it really is quite a transformation.

Well I have to admit, this is one awfully fun ride. Nice broad power band, a little flat between 3 and 4ish k, but afterwards pure fun, whew!!!!!. Rear shocks a bit washed out, either too soft or too harsh, springs probably seen better days. It really initiates a turn well, stays right on line and drives out with remarkable ease. Pulled it up to 80 mph (140 kph) in a straight line and very happy with its stability, I've been riding vintage 60's and 70's bike too long, I rode my 77 Honda 400f right after, its a fairly modified ride, cb750 front end, dual disc's, Mulholland rear shocks, mildly massaged head, cam, high volume oil pump, full Barnett clutch, choice of ontario or kerker pipes, dyna coils, transistor ignition, you get the point. It goes and it sounds great, but ya have to work it to truely enjoy its abilities, and in comparison to the fz, it rides like a truck, firm ride if ya know what I mean. So yeah, this is just so different.

I kept my expectations low with the first ride after rebuilding my FZ. Was pleasantly surprised with the performance and delighted with the way it rides. Flat spot between 3-4k is usually caused from fitting after market exhaust. Mine has a stainless Micron system and despite fitting bigger main jets the flat spot is very pronounced. I know there's a lot more to it than just upping the mains but there aren't enough hours in the day for me to mess with it too much. I can already remove & refit my FZ carbs with one hand whilst blindfolded!

My 1st ride was on it was with the really old rubber it came with, both entirely bald, it had a bad feeling to fall into a turn. I got off it and thought, " that can't be right, scares the s%$# out of me." It improved once the rear went on but not entirely, then once the front went on, its like a entirely different ride. I've got the stage 1 dynojet kit in the carbs and I can tell its making a difference, I think thats why it starts so easily, a smidge of enriching and it lights right up. I'm going to do a service at like 500 miles and see where we're at. I'm really interested in seeing what the valve clearance's are, normally afterward a reconditioning of the head it can sometimes require a minor valve adjustment, not looking forward to that, 20 of them. Hopefully it'll be fine. There's really nothing else to service but filters.

Rebuilt my old 750 head, lapped valves in etc. Had to re-shim every single valve after. Engine had done 54k miles and prior to the lapping of valves all clearances were within spec.

Well, anytime I end up servicing a head but can't address the valves (replace or refinish) I'm a leary of valve ression. I only cut the seats enough to get a consistent concentric seat, then picked out the best of the intakes and mated them to a seat. Not an ideal process but I'm working with what I had. Doing this topend correctly is a very pricey proposition and I just wasn't that invested. Anyways, spent a great deal of time getting the proper seat width and location on the valve face, then assembling the head to get the proper valve clearance's was another major project, so like I said, really hoping nothing changed much.

Well , I recieved the graphics last week and got around to doing some of them today. Once labor day is over I will go to the upholsterer and get the seat recovered, he's been on vacation the past month. I gotta admit, this bike runs better everytime I take it out, that and I'm getting way used to it. I can dump this into a turn with great confidence now, it's just very predictable once its over and into the turn. It also took a bit to learn upshift and downshift points as well as how hard I can hammer the brakes before and during turning transitions. The engine has a totally differnt brake effect (like very little) than I've become accustomed to over the years, I really have to use the brakes more than I've had to in the past. I'll post a pic as soon as I can figure out how to compress it down to 1 mgb.

If you want a lot of engine braking try a 1050 Triumph Speed Triple!

I just may, I really like having to only down shift to get the proper entrance speed, then a quick tap on the brakes. Now I find myself downshifting and grabbing a handful of brake to get setup. If it didn't track as well as it does, I'd be a bit let down, but that's not the case.
