Police up here have nothing useful to do so are pretty sh*t hot on road users - wanna get them sorted ASAP. I'm still wondering how it got through the MOT without them (and the horn?!) !! Fleabayed for £15 so they're on their way.

Get some of those universal mini-indicators.
Look cool and the police can't touch em.

Get some of those universal mini-indicators. Look cool and the police can't touch em. On their way buddy - £15 for 4 - can't go wrong. Of course, they won't come with flasher relays but I've got some 50W power resistors knocking about that'll do the job nicely.

Did you get LED ones? The bulb ones are just as good and a straight swap with no wiring changes.

Yup - LEDs - I never get on with bulbs. I've only got to look at them funny and they'll blow

flasher i still on the bike so all you need to do is plug them in . as long as theyre not led ones as i think you night need some sort of resistor or something ? indicators i think if i remember my local mot place told me you do not need indicators as long as all the switch is removed as well. From my own memory i think 87 is the cut off date for bikes having to have indicators after that. but it is not a legal requirement before that date . any way i have never had any police issues when pulled without them i use hand signals . Have fun with the FZZZZZZ ;D

I looked into the whole lights/indicators thing when I was using the public highway to set up my race bike. Anything after the early 70s (I think) must have a 'continuous sounding horn'. For lights, I read the regulations (they're available online) as saying that if you have position lights you have to have the whole lot - if you don't have the sidelights you don't need any of it. However, most MOT testers seem to interpret this as if you have ANY lights you must have all of them. This leads to an anomoly where the MOT station will not issue a 'no lights fitted at time of test' MOT if you have a brake light but the law will nick you if you drive on the road without one... I think the law actually says that if you don't have indicators you have to remove ALL the wiring associated with them. It's worth noting that your insurance cover would probably be invalidated by any deviation from factory specs anyway

Thanks fz750horse - interesting post. Amazing how much ambiguity there is surrounding such an insignificant (but important IMO) thing. And to think - if the indicators/wiring have been fitted aftermarket then it could potentially void the insurance! Just crazy. I can see me having to add 'indicators' to the list of declared mods!!!
